NMS 3.0.0.683 - Where is the buddy list?

Looks like the buddy list went missing in this version. Or is it well hidden somewhere?

Re: NMS 3.0.0.683 - Where is the buddy list?

Hi dhuelsmann

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums. :-)

I have been looking too and can no longer find any reference to the buddy

unlock or SMS command to unlock.

I think Norton did away with the Buddy idea as there were to may issues

with it and the SMS unlock command as well. Sending the SMS command

unlock and pin does not even seem to work anymore.

Now i guess having a dedicated Norton Mobile Security Web Control Panel

provides the users with a new way of unlocking the device if it does happen

to become locked. Just by logging in to the NMS Control Panel with the

Norton Account details linked to the device they then can remotely unlock it

and lock it if they wish.

Cheers. :smileywink:

[ Edited ]

The Buddy List feature is no longer available in Norton Mobile Security 3.0. Now, you can use the SMS Anti-Theft features from any other mobile phone using the 4 digit passcode.

In case you do not remember the passcode, you can login to mobilesecurity.norton.com using your Norton Account and view or change the passcode. You can also find the SMS format for using the SMS Anti-theft  features.

I think this is better and easy approach compared to the Buddy List. Of course, this is my personal view. :)

Re: NMS 3.0.0.683 - Where is the buddy list?

I note that the advertising says that there is still a buddy feature (which I personally quite liked).

To quote the latest advertising details for Norton Mobile Security - it says:

quote-

Buddy List - Lets you identify certain trusted contacts (friends or family) who can send an unlock code to your phone.

unquote.

Maybe we will just have to wait for the current issues around the release to settle down and then things may become a little clearer.  But I am not holding my breath.

Thanks for the replies. Even logged in to the mobile security site, you will find no option to unlock just to lock. Of course, the unlock option may become available once you lock the phone but I was certainly not going to risk it since Norton still says a buddy is required to unlock.

Hi dhuelsmann.

Norton have now confirmed that there is NO Buddies feature in NMS 3.0 (which I personally think is a great shame).

As for the unlock, I suspect that you are right and that the option will only show up when the device is locked.  If I could get my version of the software working I would test that but sadly at the moment I can't.

Re: NMS 3.0.0.683 - Where is the buddy list?

Hi dhuelsmann

When using Norton Mobile Security 3.0 now and the SMS  Lock command

there are only 2 ways to unlock the device the first is to enter the correct

PIN into the NMS Lock Screen and the second way is to  login to your Norton

Mobile Security Control Panel with your Norton Account details and use the

Unlock option. It might take a minute or so but i have found no issues.

And of course you can remote Lock from the NMS Control Panel as well

and create a Lock Screen Message as well which is a great idea, and to

unlock is the same correct pin or unlock option in the NMS Control Panel.

Hope you find that info helpfull.

Cheers. :smileywink:
