NMS causes Android browser to crash

I'm using ICS on a galaxy s2. NMS is version is 2.5.0.398

When I tick Web protection the Android browser occasionally hangs then crashes on safe Web sites such add BBC and Android forum. When I untick thus feature I have no more problems. There appears to be a bug. Anyone else having this issue?

Hi nosurrenda.

Welcome to the Community.

I don't have this problem and I am using the same version of NMS you are though only on a lower spec device and Android 2.2.  I am also not aware of anyone else having this problem.

I note that you are using ICS on a galaxy s2 which I assume is a new upgrade.  Is the phone rooted and is the upgrade to ICS a standard Samsung upgrade or one you have done yourself.

The phone is not rooted, and the ICS upgrade was conducted via Samsung Kies. A factory reset was also performed after the upgrade.

Since the ICS updgrade four days ago I've noticed four crashes. On each occasion the Norton icon appears in the top left corner, the phone becomes completely non responsive, and a message appears stating Norton has been uninstalled (when it hasn't). On one occasion Norton reverted to trial status before it renewed itself back to the supscription. So clearly there is a bug with Norton operating with the ICS browser. To play it safe I've unticked Browser Protection - which is a shame because I want some protection.

Re: NMS causes Android browser to crash

Ho nosurrenda.

Thanks for the speedy and clear response.

I suspect that you need Norton staff to look into this.  I'm sure they would want to get on top of any problem with ICS and the S2.  To help them it would probably be useful if you could get some logs of what is happening.  If you could download the free app from the Market (Google Play) called Catlog - Logcat Reader.  This will be able to record what is happening on the phone and you will then be able to post a copy of the log to the right Norton Staff member when they come up on this thread.

In the meantime given that you have understandably unchecked Browser protection you might like to look at this page which includes Norton Identity Safe for Android the new "password management and safe browsing app".  This is free.

I hope that helps.

Re: NMS causes Android browser to crash

I'd be curious to know what full versions of NMS that is installed.  There were some issues found when testing with ICS that were fixed in an update.

Re: NMS causes Android browser to crash

I downloaded it direct from Norton @ http://www.norton.mobi/nms-estore/, so whatever version is on my phone comes from here. I was asked to download via this link by a Norton rep because the license went into expiry immediately upon upgrading to Ice Cream Sandwiche.

Re: NMS causes Android browser to crash

Could you run LiveUpdate to check to see if there's a new update?  If no update available, go to Help > About and post the full version number.

Re: NMS causes Android browser to crash

OK.  I assume there was no update available.  If you could run CatLog as was mentioned before and reproduce the crash we can take a look into this to see what's happening.
