Got message to renew subscription but when I go to renew I get a message, "Waiting for response from Android Market..." then nothing happens

Welcome to the Community.
As I don't have the Google Play version of NMS I cannot comment from direct experience but I would suspect that it is a Google glitch. I would suggest that you have another try after a suitable gap and see if the same thing happens. Either way please come back - either to tell us that all is resolved or .... that we need to find another way of sorting out your problem.
By the way - how much more time have you got showing on your subscription?
