Hi I would just like to give some feedback on your Android app Norton Utilities ((Beta)

.

The user interface or UI is impressive, or should i say very impressive just like the UI in Norton Mobile Security (Beta).

One thing i thought could be added is in the section  (Apps) which shows all the apps that are installed and running on

the device, and gives the ability to stop running apps is to also be able to ignore selected apps and put them into there

own ignore apps list so they do not come up in the main list all the time.

Maybe it would work don't know just an idea.

But other wise a good app to play with interesting info and displays can only get better i guess as it is in Beta.

There is one more thing  as always it would be good if it was a Move To SD app which would be great with Norton Mobile Security (Beta) as well, I know alot of users would agree with me on that as well.

Anyway keep up the good work Symantec Norton and look forward to your apps getting better and better and willing to pay

for the final Android products.

As posted in other android beta forum had more of a play with Norton Utilities Beta app and  found a long press on selected apps in list and i am given the choice to exclude or include in list.

Thankyou Symantec Norton on another cool app.

I review Android Apps for fun at my blog, and here's my entry on Norton Mobile Utilities

Norton Mobile Utilities (for Android) is a combo program that packs a lot of punch for only 600 KB. It has four main functions:

App manager -- kill running apps, as well as uninstall existing apps

Device info -- battery level, temp, CPU, memory, network, SD storage used, and system info

Usage meter -- how much voice minutes, text messages, and data did you use?

Installer -- install any apps found on the SD card, or delete them.

Unfortunately, it seems to be missing some features. It's as if each of these features are partials.

App Manager -- doesn't show services, or even make distinction between apps and services, nor does it stop apps from starting. It's basically a task killer combined with an app manager. 

Device info -- nice graphs, but no history saving of any sort, nor any display in notification area like SeePU

Usage meter -- doesn't do per-app data measures, notifications of possibly exceeding quotas, estimate overages, even disable data

Installer -- really no big deal, as it doesn't actually make any backups. It is PURELY an installer.

Overall, it's nice to have multiple functions in a single app, but why are all four apps so... half-sized?

Basically, I see this app as a sort of... mutt.  It seems to be half of Advanced Task Killer (ATK), half of 3G Watchdog or DroidStat, half of Mini-Info (without the widget functions), and an installer that's almost superfluous.  

EDIT: Forgot to include my specs. 

Original Motorola Droid / running Cyanogen Mod 6.1.2, and p3Droid kernel 125/1000 MHz kernel, Swap on (at 256MB)

One more point: app is VERY slow scanning the SD card for apps in the "installer" mode. Any way to speed it up?

Thanks for your input on Norton Mobile Utilities. I went ahead and forwarded the information to the production team.

Please keep in mind that the application is still in the Beta phase and the production team will continue to improve the application and look for great feedback like yours from its users to help with that improvement.

The data monitoring feature does not fit my monthly plan at all. You need:

Minute quota for daytime + option of unlimited calling at night with ability to set beginning and end time for those.

Ability to combine incoming and outgoing minutes.

Unlimited texting, so basically you can have a counter, but not a proportion (just showing the number of sms, not the number against a maximum.

For data, show upload and download usage.

Thanks Norton! All my computers run on Norton, have been for years. I'm glad that my phone can now run on Norton, too!

Specifically, look at Call Meter 3G. THAT app is flexible enough to accomodate almost ANY calling plan, voice AND text. 

You need to also put in a warning: that the app cannot detect the network so anything about "free in-network" minutes or text cannot be separated. You also can't do anything about "family plan" where more than one line share minutes as you can't see what the other phone used. 

CRAZY IDEA: For calling, you may even want to let users upload / download defined profiles for certain carriers. For example, download Verizon plan / T Mobile Plan, and so on.

Checking to see what the last "updated" version of Norton Mobile Utilities (Beta) is?  I am viewing the Apps options and see some where theres a gray "excluded" underneath the app name.   Is there  a way to build and manage an Exclusion list within this app? And, is there  way currently, to remove an app from the "Excluded" list wherever this app is grabbing the info that marks an app as an excluded?

The latest version is 1.0.2.77 I believe.  Which should be the latest on the Market, which should alert you to any updates.

As for excluded - if you long press an app under Apps you get various options including "Exclude".  If you exclude it and do the same thing you get an option "include".  Does that do what you want?
