My phone is a Samsung GT-I9100 (Galaxy S2)
NMU reports Mobile Data usage that 1/2 of what my provider charges and 1/2 of what 3G Watchdog (v0.36.0) indicates. I assume that NMU of off by about 50% less than actual.
The issue is reproducible on Samsung GT-I9100 (Galaxy S2) owned by family members
Is this a flaw / know issue?
What can I do to correct?
I am running NMU version 1.0.2.93 on Android 2.3.6

Hi FransL.
Thanks for the report.
I think you will have to wait for someone from Norton to respond to this as I suspect the team may need some more details.
I don't think that I have this problem and I do not recall anyone else having a similar problem but it sounds as if you have good reason to think that it is Norton Mobile Utilities that his getting it wrong in your case.
Can you just confirm that it is the "mobile" data you are having an issue with and not the "Wi-Fi" data.
Are you/your family doing anything unusual with the phone or the data connection?
Good luck.

I wait for Norton to respond
There has been earlier reports please check: 'NMU 1.0.2.64 Data usage incorrect'
I can confirm that it is about Mobile Data
I report because 1) for us NMU is lagging 50% behind 2) the issue is not limited to 1 phone
I can only guess for a cause;
- frequently switching between 2G-3G
- frequently switching between Mobile data and Wifi
- NMU not picking up all Mobile Data

Well spotted on that old report Frans.
I hope you will forgive me for not remembering a thread from last August. ;-)
However you will also note that we hoped that had been fixed.
You pick up on the point about frequent switching. Do you switch network modes a lot, as far as you are aware? And again can you confirm that it is the Mobile Data and not Wi-Fi data that you are finding problems with.
Also can you confirm if your service provider is measuring/charging for upload, download or both?

I switch very frequently (several times per day) between G2, G3 for mobile data and WiFi depending upon my location.
I report about incorrect reporting of Mobile Data usage.
I switched to a limited data package and that is why I check upon my Mobile Data usage (I have not checked upon WiFi reporting).

A couple questions Frans.
Do you connect to 4G at all?
If you looked at the total 2G, 3G, and Wifi counts does it add up to what it should be, but just not distributed correctly? Or is it just missing completely?

Hi Erik,
4G is not yet offered thru my provider.
I live in a 2G area because UMTS is blocked by locals who fear the radiation and when I travel to more urban areas my phone switches to 3G. At certain designated locations I use WiFi for data (preferred to reduce cost).
I have not added up Mobile Data and WiFi because I did not check WiFi (because it is 'free').

I promise I won't laugh at the one comment. ![]()
I just needed to know as we have seen usage on 4G sometimes registering as Wifi for some reason.
If you could add the two (3G/2G and Wifi) together to double check that would help. I've passed this along to the team to check into it.

Erik,
NMU reports that my WiFi data usage is 6.5 GB (starting the 1st day of the month)
NMU reports that my mobile data usage is 5.8 MB (starting the 1st day of the month)
The above only demonstrates that I try to reduce my mobile data use to the max (so that I do not exceed 300MB per month)
I found a link to an Android developer issue that might be the cause of my problem.
It is reported that The TrafficStats API, TrafficStats.getMobileRxBytes() and TrafficStats.getMobileTxBytes() seem to be broken on certain Android builds: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=
Andriod might have broken APIs. The question than is why NMU suffers more than some other Apps
NMU is reporting incorrect Mobile Data usage
3g Watchdog is reporting correct Data usage
MB Meter (by KPN) is reporting correct Data usage
