NMU has stopped counting data traffic!

To my surprise the usage stats on my device (ZTE blade running Android 2.2) has stopped recording data transfers by WiFi.  It has been recording data transfer by WiFi apparently without problems for months, but since the last change date nothing is shown.  I have no idea why as my version of Android has not changed and as far as I can recall there has been no update to NMU in the last month (my current version is 1.0.2.98) so I am currently puzzled as to what has caused it.

Oh and my WiFi has not changed either.  I am using the same wireless router though I may have rebooted it at some point.

Re: NMU has stopped counting data traffic!

Mike,

Is the Wifi meter completely blank now? Or is it just not advancing anymore? Is it just this months data that isn't being logged? 98 is the current build.

Re: NMU has stopped counting data traffic!

Hi Erik,

Sorry did not mean to disturb your weekend.

Last month and the month before I have WiFi data shown but this month it shows zero, and I know I have downloaded a fair amount of data since the change date which was 23 April.

Re: NMU has stopped counting data traffic!

Do you know if you've updated the OS on the phone at all or made any device configuration changes?  Sorry for the delay in response.  Would you mind running Catlog while connected to Wifi and using some bandwidth?  Since we didn't change the build since your plan change it does seem rather strange.

Re: NMU has stopped counting data traffic!

Hi Erik.

I'm not sure what delay in response you were referring to but I noticed none and this is not a pressing issue for me.  But ..Thanks!

No change to operating system, no changes that I am aware of apart from switching some features on and off as I always do.  I may have loaded some new apps to try but cannot see that they should change anything.

As requested I will run Catlog sometime in the next days or so and let you have the results.

Re: NMU has stopped counting data traffic!

Two CatLog files sent, one for around 670kb of file from an app update in Google Play, the second around 10 MB of mapping data.

I hope they help.

Re: NMU has stopped counting data traffic!

An update for you..

While the usage count for data is still zero, I happened to look at the "network" traffic yesterday (under the Device option on the main NMU page).  Its currently showing the last 10+ days of Network usage and shows some fascinating figures:

1 - [A mapping app] 170.5 MB

2 - System Process(UID:0) 59.4 MB

3- Dialer 51.8 MB

4 - System Process(UID:1010) 51.5 MB

5 - Media 17.5 MB

6 - Economist [an app providing access to a magazine] 10.3 MB

7 - Google Play Store 7.2 MB

etc. etc.

Now that shows to me that NMU is seeing a lot of data but I have no idea why it is not recording it under Usage.  I am also amazed at the entries 2,3 & 4.  5 is also a surprise as apart from the Economist I was not aware of any media usage.

So I hope this means more to the NMU team than it does to me!

I also hope it helps in getting to the bottom of this.

Mike

The team was able to reproduce the problem using your logs. They are working to correct that.

To the new info it all depends on "what" is using "what." That list is based on the process name.
