Need ability to TURN OFF DATA ROAMING SOUND

Verizon allows at no extra cost Data Roaming in the US so we find Norton sound unnecessary.  We find ourselves in a data roaming area and Norton Uitil sounds off once in a while to announce we are Data Roaming even though I have Mobile network settings - Data roaming sound unchecked.

Norton Util Data Roaming sound is anoying and a reason to uninstall Utilities, which we don't want to do.

Is there a way to turn off the sound?

How about checking this sound switch before Norton audible notification for Data Roaming?

Re: Need ability to TURN OFF DATA ROAMING SOUND

Hi, Homer123,

If you open NMU and select the Usage icon, you will see at the top right of the screen a "Settings" button. Select that option, and under "Alert Settings," you will see an item for "Roaming Alert." If you uncheck that, it should take care of your problem.

Let us know if that works for you.

Re: Need ability to TURN OFF DATA ROAMING SOUND

Hi DistEd2,

I found the setting.

You saved me from unistalling NMU today.  But there still seems to be an issue for me.

Responding to the NMU alert, always gives me the Android Wireless setting screen, which has data roaming checked and sound not checked.  I could not get back to the NMU screen.  I had to uninstall NMU and reinstall to get to the NMU settings screen.

Once I have a notification alert, it seems to stay 'active' in the notification bar most of the time.

And when I go to NMU even from MY Apps, I only get the Android setting screen, not the NMU screen.

If you need more clarification, let me know.

Now that NMU Data Roaming is turned off, I still have the Android Wireless turned on and can connect to roaming.  I assume that NMU will not continue to beep.

Thanks,

Barry

Screenshots would definitely help.

Re: Need ability to TURN OFF DATA ROAMING SOUND

Thanks, Barry--glad we could help. Obviously (from Erik's reply) we have not been able to replicate any of what you're seeing now. Send us some screenshots if you can, and we'll try to figure this out. It is still a Beta, so there could well be some undiscovered bug in the code that only raises its head under a very specific set of circumstances. Erik has a logging program  that he may ask you to run later, too, which helps them track stuff like that down....

Another thing that would help on top of screenshots would be step by step details of what you're doing. We usually call this "steps to reproduce."

Re: Need ability to TURN OFF DATA ROAMING SOUND

We are traveling and often not in a roaming area and will be leaving this area soon.

See if my step description below helps to identify what I see is a problem.

NO PROBLEM IN THIS SEQUENCE

1) Reboot phone

2) after reboot, no data roaming sound yet (no problem for me)

3) unlock phone

4) touch triangle in circle Apps icon on lower left of main screen

5) touch Norton Mobile Utilities icon

6) I get correct main NMU screen.

7) Usage / Settings / Roaming Alert was prevously checked.

8)  No problem at this point.

HERE IS THE LEAD UP TO THE PROBLEM:

P1) After a while I get the NMU data roaming sound and a new notification icon on top of the main screen.

P2) When I swipe the notification bar, and touch the NMU notification icon, the next screen is Android "Mobile network settings" screen, not NMU screen.

P3) HERE IS THE PROBLEM:

P4) touching the triangle in circle Apps icon on lower left of main screen so I can get My Apps and the NMU app icon:

P5)     GIVES ME THE Android "Mobile network settings "PAGE AND I DON'T FIND A WAY TO GET TO NMU PROGRAM SCREEN WITHOUT UNISTALLING AND REINSTALLING NMU.

P6) No matter whatever way I try to access NMU program, I only get Android "Mobile network settings" screen.

Re: Need ability to TURN OFF DATA ROAMING SOUND

Hi Homer123,

Sorry it I have missed it in an earlier post but what device are you using and what version of Android?

Also for the uninitiated can you spell out exactly what "Circle Apps" is?

Thanks.

Sorry if I seem to be asking you to state the obvious but so far I am stumped.

[ Edited ]

Hi, no problem with your request for clarification.

Verizon Thunderbolt

Android 2.2.1

Norton Utilities 1.0.2.77

On the main home screen there are three separate 'buttons'

on the left is what I called CIRCLE WITH TRIANGLE inside it - touch it and we get a list of our Apps

I was trying to point out that whether I start NMU with this App screen or Notification NMU icon same problem.

(middle is "Phone" - touch to make phone calls)

(on right is artist pallet - touch it to personalize)

Re: Need ability to TURN OFF DATA ROAMING SOUND

Do you have a "back" key or softkey?  It sounds like we're launching the last screen opened.
