Using the SMS Anti-Theft features of Norton Mobile Security

[ Edited ]

SMS Anti-Theft feature of Norton Mobile Security gives you various options to safeguard your mobile phone, personal information and contacts stored on the phone. Following are the SMS Anti-Theft features that you can make use of:

  • Remote Scream: This new feature helps you find your misplaced or muted phone if it is nearby. You can send a text message to your mobile phone from any phone that triggers a loud noise from your phone to help you find it.
  • Remote Locate: This feature helps you locate your lost mobile phone by sending a text message(SMS). After receiving the text message, your phone sends a reply with the location co-ordinates using which you can find the location of the phone on map.
Note: To use this feature, Google Location service must be enabled on your mobile phone. Configure the Location & Security settings on your mobile phone to use both wireless networks as well as GPS.
  • Remote Lock: This feature helps you remotely disable your lost or stolen phone to prevent the access to the strangers.
  • Remote Wipe: This feature enables you to remotely erase all your personal information on your phone if it's lost or stolen, including contacts, text messages, call history, browser history, bookmarks, and any data on your phone's memory card.

To use the SMS Anti-Theft features, you just need to have a text message(SMS) sent to your mobile phone. Depending on the Anti-Theft feature that you want to use, do one of the following:

  • To use the Remote Scream feature, send the text message from any phone in this format:
    scream password
  • To locate your phone remotely, send the text message from any phone in this format:
    locate password
  • To lock your phone remotely, send the text message from any phone in this format:
    lock password
  • To remotely wipe your personal data from your phone, send the text message from any phone in this format:
    wipe password

For example, if you want to lock the phone and if your password is Password123, send the SMS text message:
lock Password123

To unlock your device, you can contact one of your buddies and have them send the following text message (SMS) to your mobile device:

If you do not remember the contacts that you have added as buddies, on the device lock screen, tap the Unlock Help tab. You can see a list of your buddies. Tap one of the buddies to call and have the following text message (SMS) sent to your mobile device:
