What is Symantec's srategy for the iPad and Android devices?

Hi:

Just wanted to check in with Symantec on the following:

Apple iPad

Android platform

Any news on Norton security products for them?

Thanks,

Kind of a broad question.  :smileywink:

For the iPad (iPhone, iPod) stay tuned.  Norton Snap has been released for iOS and we will have other apps and services in the next half a year or so.

We have several apps already for Android.  Norton Mobile Security and Norton Tablet Security are both paid products for Android.  Norton Mobile Utilities is in Beta.  Do you have something more specific?

Hi Erik:

Good deal. :smileyhappy:

Have one question -

How does the Mobile Security product differ from the Tablet? Is there an overlap?

Thanks,

Re: What is Symantec's strategy for the iPad and Android devices?

Hi Atomic_Blast,

Erik is on a short but well earned holiday so I will try and fill in for him.

The answer to your question is - yes there is quite a lot of overlap.  I do not personally have a tablet and so have not used this software in anger but my understanding is that they are basically the same with the SMS messaging which is used for Norton Mobile Security (NMS) left off the Tablets (as they would not normally have SMS capabilities) and but with the screen display improved on the Tablets to make the most of their larger screens.

In the early days when people were using NMS on tablets a number of compatibility issues arose and Norton seemed to find it a more sensible option to go for two separate products.

Oh and there is one more difference of which I am aware.  NMS is available via the Android Market in two forms.  A free "Lite" form which gives anti-malware protection and a limited remote lock capability, or the paid version which comes with a fuller range of features which apart from the differences noted above seem to fairly match the Tablet Security product as far as I am aware.  So if you have access to the Android Market you can try NMS Lite and see what you think of it.

I hope that helped.  If not say so and I or someone with Norton Tablet Security will try and improve matters.  :-)

Andmike hit the basics. I've been running NTS on my Xoom for a couple of months so can address any specific questions you may have.

Note also that there are specific forums for each of the Norton Mobile apps, which you can access from the "Go To" menu at the top right of your browser window.

Hi all:

Thanks for the clarification!

Now, I can understand the main differences.

IMHO, both products should be combined into one.

This response was written over a year ago.  Does Symantec have an antivirus or something for the iPad 2 and 3?

thanks

Any suggestions on the IPAD 2 for monitoring my child and keeping them safe?

Hi Lablover61.

Welcome to the Community.

I'm not an Apple man myself but you might like to look at the App store for Norton Online Family.  Does that get you someway towards your objective?

If I have missed the point or if you have any further questions please do come back.

Good luck.
