Can you also check in Tools > Manage Add-ons and see if Norton Toolbar Norton Identity Protection and Norton Vulnerability Protection are all listed and enabled.

Thanks, Dave, that was it!  How could my toolbar and Identity Protection have been disabled?  Could it have happened as a consequence of my earlier use of Microsoft Security Essentials?
