Hi flyingguy,
As far as the total removal/cleaning, may I suggest follownig my directions above (removing FF and settings totally) and after being sure you have a backup of ID Safe Data, remove NIS and then download and run the Norton Remvoal Tool once and reboot after it is completed. The NRT can be found here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp
Basically the only two changes in the procedure I am suggesting is to not retain your FF settings and in this case - run the Norton Removal Tool to clean out any left over debris from previous NIS installs.
I'll be looking and hoping you have a good response for us tomorrow.

When you retain your settings, your profile is carried over and, since all of the extension information is stored in your profile, you can end up with a new Firefox installation but the same problem. You might want to try backing up your existing profile and creating a new profile. If the Norton Toolbar appears correctly in the new profile, you can copy over your bookmarks, etc from the backup - just don't copy over everything, such as extension files. Or you could just reinstall Firefox again, opting for complete removal, and then restore your bookmarks and other data from the backup,

Thank you for your attempts to help. I have spent the day removing and re installing both NIS and Firefox with all the permutations I can think of. I used the NIS removal tool. I completely removed firefox 13 and removed all profiles & history with the revo uninstaller. Still no success.
Hovever ID safe does show up in IE. I am really not a fan though of IE.
So I surrender relative to Firefox. Does NIS ID safe work in chrome? I understand that is a good browser.

Hi Bruce,
The Norton Toolbr (thus ID Safe) is supposed to be compatable with Chrome - however, there have been some situations reported - have a look here: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Nort
I am really sorry we could not get this sorted There is still one more thing that Subash has shared that you may try if you are willing to try to get FF/NIS working correctly
Please open Run by pressing windows key + R -> devmgmt.msc -> View Show Hidden devices -> open Non-Plug and Play Drivers-> Maximize the Screen
If you have a identity safe data back it up ->
Goto Control panel uninstall norton AV ->select the second option to
completely uninstall ->restart -> Run Norton Removal Tool -> Restart ->
Goto the screenshot page -> if you find NAVENG, NAVEX15, Norton Antivirus settings manager, starting from Symantec
Data Store to SymEvent (entries starting with Sym) ->right click on them
click uninstall -> For the Restart prompts select no -> Goto Program files
if you find Norton Folder delete it -> Goto Run ->type temp ->Delete all
the files in there -> Run -> %temp% ->delete all ->Now Restart the PC -
>Install NIS ->Run Live Update until you get no updates found
message ->restart PC
Let us know how it went for you.

Hi flyingguy,
I am curious about whether you tried creating a new profile. Often a missing extension is confined to a single profile and it will show up in a different one. Another thing you could try is to delete the extension configuration files as described here:

Okay, I have tried all of the above, EVERYTHING. Still "no joy." Hours and hours. I am frustrated and discouraged. I have decided I don't want to stop using Firefox and will have to continue to refer to my list of passwords and type them in by hand and fill out credit card information when I make an on-line purchase as well. A real inconvience when someone is used to the ID safe features.
I know you have done your best to help and I appreciate it but I am weary, frustrated and disappointed. The key problem I think starts with Firefox and their ever changing updates.
If you come up with a "magic bulet" that will suddenly allow your software to dance with Firefox, Please let me know.
I will mention one more thing. I have a fresh copy of Norton 360 I purchased a month ago and when I removed NIS and installed the 360 it has the same problem. It will not interface with Firefox and offer the Toolbar. Yet it works okay in IE.
Bruce
