Hi,
If you want to block those sites you might use Norton's DNS servers and let them do the filtering.

norton dns works way too slow than my actual dns server.

Plus using norton dns create 1 more issue. I need to keep chaging places to work on internet and I dont have control over modem on all the places. I do get IP from DHCP on most of the places. SO it would be hard to use norton dns on alll those places.

Hi yaashul,

The following instructions are based on Norton Internet Security.  If you are using a different product, the settings in the first suggestion may be in a different location:

1.  To keep the Norton Toolbar visible, but remove the Identity Safe feature,  open NIS and click Settings > Web > Identity Safe.   Toggle the Identity Safe setting to OFF, click Apply and OK.  Restart Firefox.

2.  To hide the Norton Toolbar, click the orange Firefox button (top left corner of browser), hover your mouse cursor over Options and click Norton Toolbar in the dropdown list.

Both of these will allow the Norton Safe Web feature to continue to work.

SendOfJive,

I am doing the very same thing by hiding norton toolbar in firefox but it is increasing loading time as Norton Toolbar is not disabled. It is enabled just hidden.

I want to disable norton toolbar and want to use web protection services like website malicious filtering.

Norton Safe Web is a component of the Norton Toolbar, and so will not run with the Toolbar disabled.  I wouldn't concern myself with load times.  For instance, Mozilla did a little sleight of hand to speed up load times for Firefox 14.  Instead of loading RSS feeds for sites in the Bookmarks Toolbar when the browser is launched, Firefox 14 now only loads the feeds when you click on the Live Bookmark link.  So they have shaved a few seconds off the browser load time, but added those seconds to the time it takes the Live Bookmark to load when you want to view it.  Net result: no time saved at all, but more inconvenience to the user because there is no more instant access to RSS headlines.  Quicker load times do not come without a tradeoff.  If you want to use a feature, you have to allow it time to load at some point.

Re: Firefox & Norton Toolbar Disable But on Identity protection

perhaps the problem is in norton designing in creatng this tool for firefox. In IE we can disable Norton toolbar without disabling Indetity safe hence we can surf net with protection.

Perhaps they created this toold with something else in mind.
