My HDD crashed and my PC won't turn on... all my data unrecoverable. Does Norton store Identity Safe pwds virtually or do they only live on the HDD locally? Any way to recover them??

Hi,
If you were using the online vault then all of your data is safely stored on a Norton server. If you were using the local vault then all of your data is stored only on your PC.
Before you trash the old PC you might want to remove the hard drive. The fact that you can't get it up and running again doesn't mean that the data on the drive is lost.
You say that it won't turn on. That could be a simple fix of replacing the power supply. All may not be lost ![]()

Thanks for the feedback.
I agree re: data recovery. In fact, my first idea was that the battery failed (it was 5 years old after all, and the juice was nearly gone.. required constant power via the adapter to stay on as the battery would die in a couple of minutes).
So I ordered a brand new battery, switched it out, and it actually did power up and the "pwoered by Asus" logo would load, indicating start up. However, even with a brand new battery, it immediately crashes after about 10 seconds of booting up.
What do you think that indicates? Maybe a circuit fried somewhere that cycles power on the main board? What is curious is that the power cord adapter shows a green light when plugged in (indicating it's working) but when I plug it into the laptop, none of the power / battery indicators will light up (no yellow, no green, nothing!). So clearly the power is not charging the battery.
Any idea what that could be?
