Norton Toolbar / Norton Identity Safe

I've recently bought a new laptop, and at the same time bought Norton 360 6.0. After install, I logged into ID safe on my main computer and it gave the option to sync which I did. However, I then realised it had synced with my new laptop and erased all of my logins! I had hoped it would be the other way around.

How can I retrieve my logins? I've found the backup file, but it says its password protected. I've tried both my previous ID safe password and my new one (when installing 360 6.0 it required a stronger password) but neither work- what else could it be? I would have thought the password would be the one I used at the time of the backup?

You say you found the backup file. Was this a file created by exporting your Identity Safe data from your main computer? If so, when you exported the data, did you assign a password to the file? If you did not, try just entering a blank password.
