Re: Norton Confidential plug-in crashing NIS 2012 - MY SOLUTION

It is interesting to see the experiences others have had with this issue.

I posted the question yesterday before I stumbled upon this thread (first day on this Forum)

Re: Norton Confidential plug-in crashing Chrome

I am having similar issues. I am running SEP 12.1.1000.157 RU1. Norton confidential crashes for IE, Firefox and Chrome for me at the same time. I have installed Opera as backup browser and using it to type this reply.

Norton confidential crashes only when my laptop recovers from Hibernate mode. Every 1 out of 2 times when my laptop recovers from Hibernate mode this plugin crashes.

OS: Win 7 64 bit

Re: Norton Confidential plug-in crashing Chrome

I've now DISABLED the plug-in... I'll let you know how that goes (so far, so good).

Re: Norton Confidential plug-in crashing Chrome

Hi rlaskin, please, how did you do that? and is it safe?

Thanks in adavnce.

Another message to Norton,

Is it better to revert back to to NIS 2011? There was never a problem with this.

Re: Norton Confidential plug-in crashing Chrome

I don't want to disable the plugin because I'm not sure if it's safe. So I did what another person did from reading their post.

1) Click the wrench icon at upper right

2) Click Settings

3) Click Under the Hood

4) Click Content Settings at top of page

5) Scroll down to Plug-ins

6) Click Disable individual plug-ins

7) Check the 'Allow' box in the Norton Confidential Version: 2012.5.2.6 section

Now this has worked for me. The only place I ever had a crash with the Norton Confidential Plugin was when visiting my banking website. Every other site I go to using Chrome, I've never had a crash. It's been a week now and there has been no crash when visiting my banking site. Like I say, this has worked for me and I still have the plugin enabled. Now I just have it set to Allow.

Re: Norton Confidential plug-in crashing Chrome

I don't know if it's safe, but the "Allow" procedure did not solve the problem for me (and, frankly, I don't know if it's "safe" either!).  In any case, nothing bad has happened yet but it's been less than 24 hours - but I haven't seen the problem again either.

If you want to try it, follow the same procedure as previously posted except for the last step:

1) Click the wrench icon at upper right

2) Click Settings

3) Click Under the Hood

4) Click Content Settings at top of page

5) Scroll down to Plug-ins

6) Click Disable individual plug-ins

7) Instead of selecting "Allow" click on the Disable option.

Good luck!

Re: Norton Confidential plug-in crashing Chrome

Hi rlaskin,

I know the Chrome plugin issue has become a major problem for so many people. That being said, it seems as though what works for some doesn't work for others when it concerns these plugins. So far the 'Allow' is working good for me and it's been a week and no crash.

Maybe I've been lucky, I don't know. I've read so many post and replies where so many people are having the crash no matter where they go or what they do. I've only had the crash at my banking site and no place else.

For now I'll see how this goes with allowing the plugin. I know that sounds strange but it's working for me. If I start having crashes at my banking site when going there, I'll consider what you posted.

Thanks for keeping this going. Hopefully the plugin problems people are having will be resolved soon. Chrome is a great browser.

Re: Norton Confidential plug-in crashing Chrome

Question for you all... does anyone who's having this problem also have another password manager such as RoboForm?  Norton Confidential is the Norton password manager and it may be, since the latest update (when all this seems to have started) that it's now created a conflict of some kind.  I'm using RoboForm and have disabled Norton Confidential and, so far, it's working fine.  It may be that Edjr60's banking crash is somehow related to the passwork management.
