Hi Dick, All,
Norton Confidential as a standalone product has been discontinued and is no longer a supported product. I don't think it should be compatible with NIS 2012 but it's not something that we have tested internally.
Thank you. I've been looking for that answer
Now I know how to respond to conflict questions - uninstall Norton Confidential!
BTW - what's the replacement? I know that one of the current products has picked up the duties of that program.
Please see this post by Tim_Lopez for a little more info.
Read it and understand it. With the features having been transfered to NIS and 360 it still seems that uninstalling confidential is the easier solution.
I'm not sure I can fault Chrome for not making changes to support a product that Norton no longer supports.
Am I missing the point?

Uninstalling Norton Confidential won't work, because Norton Confidential is not installed and won't be found as a program on the PC. The Norton Toolbar still retains some files that are identified as Norton Confidential components. So Norton Confidential is, in some ways, synonymous with the Norton Toolbar. When Chrome states that Norton Confidential is crashing, it is not referring to the obsolete Norton program - it is referring to the current Norton Toolbar.

Thank you SendOfJive for clarifying that it is in fact the Norton Toolbar which is not playing nicely with the Chrome browser.
attn: Norton uh-oh SWAT Team:
It took a while to write the code to integrate the Norton Toolbar into the Chrome browser.
It’s still not right.
Please fix it before NIS/NAV 2013 is released.

I have the current Norton toolbar, from the current version of NIS 2012.
The crashing still occurs.
I don't care about anything except the fact that the computer is still constantly crashing and I get the notification that "Norton Confidential has to close" along with lots of other garbage before my computer actually crashes.
This has been going on since last August of 2011.
I am one of thousands of people still having this problem, and there is still no excuse for us having to suffer with this.
When will it be fixed?

You can instruct the Chrome browser to allow the Norton Toolbar as-is.
To do so, add the command line flag "--always-authorize-plugins" (no quotes!) to the end of your shortcut.

hello. i am only a user, i have no knowledge of dumps, patches, disabling products or any other type of computer knowledge. i have read through some of the posts but most make no sense to me. most of the posts are very technical for me. my problem is as follows:
i use Google Chrome as browser. i can have one or several tabs open. when playing games on computer (mainly farmville), i get the following message:
following plug-in unresponsive - Norton Confidential
at this point my computer freezes and the "spinning loading thing" continues to spin anywhere from three to ten minutes. at this point i sit and wait and then the computer un-freezes and i can continue playing. this message appears several times a day. i do not restart the browser.
so i guess my question is: is there a fix for this error and/or how do i fix the problem? (please explain answer as computer for dummies)

Unfortunately you have come to the last place we seem to get to after exhausting all our other options for help.
Yes, you are having the same problem I've been having since last August, 2011.
Apparently this is a problem known to Norton/Symantec, and thousands (millions?) of us who use Chrome have this problem.
Norton/Symantec says they can't do anything because Google Chrome won't do anything.
And so, here we are.
