I've put this subject into the search box and there are so many topics on it BUT they aren't in any order so I'm not about to trawl through them all to find an answer
My questions are simple
What is Norton Confidential?
Why does it crash Chrome (and thereafter also IE and Norton's own programmes on my desktop)
What is Norton doing about it?
Why should I stick with Norton?

This has been dealt with in the threads you did not take the time to check.
Norton Confidential is the Identity Safe feature of Norton products. It used to be a separate application.
The issue of crashing chrome has been dealt with. It was a Chrome issue that Norton was made aware of, and worked with Chome to fix. It has been fixed. If you update your Chrome to the latest version, and update your Norton Product by running LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available, you should no longer have the issues.

Peter,
Can you show me where this issue has been fixed? The latest post by a Symantec Employee is here by Jens_Sorensen which states -
We are currently working with Google on a solution and a bug has been filed:
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id
We suggest you add your comments to the above ‘incident’ as I’m sure any feedback would be much appreciated. Google did partly fix the issue with the following change
https://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome?view=rev&re
The above change reduced the window of opportunity for the hang however it did not fix the issue 100%. The above change made it into Chrome version 18.
Dave.

My bad.
Thanks for clarifying that Dave.
I had read that thread, but gave a little too much optimism to the post. ![]()
