yesterday i had an "error:3048,3" happen 3 times while browsing. ran power eraser twice. eventually error stopped.
then, all of a sudden, norton toolbar disappeared from internet explorer. i believe i am running IE9 and toolbar add-on is enabled.
it's still there on mozilla firefox - but gone from IE ??? i don't have any conflicting virus protection except malwarebytes and that's never been a problem before.

The standard corrective action for Error 3048 is to run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool found below. Be sure to read the Before You Begin.
However prior to doing that since you say the NTB is still working in FF is to go to View > Toolbars in IE and ensure the NTB is check marked.

the error message has stopped happening and i have norton 360 (disk) the tool you suggested say's this:
The Norton Remove & Reinstall tool is not compatible with most of the Norton Online products like Norton AntiVirus Online, Norton Internet Security Online, or Norton 360 Online, which are provided by the service providers.
should i still run it ?
norton toolbar is not listed in toolbars anymore.
in manage add-ons it is and is enabled ???
do you think the uninstall/reinstall will fix both problems ?

The Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool will remove your current install and reinstall a new copy. You do not need you N 360 disk. If you had something like Ghost or Norton Utilites installed, you wouldneed a CD/product key. The products you mentioned are light versions of full blown Norton products (normally supplied free by your ISP and that has no impact on running the tool for N 360.
Just as a precation, I wuld backup/export ID Safe Data (if you use it for log-ins) and please after the tool finishs running, run Liveupdate (rebooting as requested) s many times as it takes for LiveUpdate to respond "no updates found".

I am glad you got it sorted. Although it is hard to believe it was working before in IE with that setting in IE unchecked.

i don't know how...but something i did must have been able to change the setting and un-check it ??? - weird !?!
it's a mystery. oh well, as long as it's back and if it disappears again, i'll know where to look first.
thanx for your help again.
