Stop NSS from loading Norton toolbar in FF

NSS 5.2.2.3 keeps trying to stick the toolbar in my FF installation. It's incompatible with FF also and I dont want or need it. I removed and /or renamed the add-on .dll it puts in the N360_5.0.0.125 folder but NSS keeps regenerating the useless .dll.

I tried disabling the safe surfing part of NSS but then it complains that my computer is not protected. It is; I just don't need Norton to keep me away from pfishing sites.

How can I stop NSS from forcing a useless program to try to load?

Hm, to stop this “useless” program...., have you tried to disable the Norton Toolbar in FF Add-Ons?

Re: Stop NSS from loading Norton toolbar in FF

Hi rybrns,

First of all you are 2 version upgrades behind the most current version.  The most current version as of today is 20.2.0.19.

I suggest you upgrade your current install by folowing the instructiions in the following link:

http://forums.comcast.com/t5/Security-and-Anti-Virus/How-To-Uninstall-Reinstall-Norton-Security-Suit...

The latest upgrade is compatible with FF 18.0.2.  However since you really do not want the Norton Toolbar to load and do not want Norton Safe Web - you can try the following:

Display the Norton Toolbar, Left click on the Norton checkmark (just to the right of the Norton Search box.  Uncheck Enable Norton Safe Web, then right click on the same Norton checkmark and uncheck the Norton Toolbar.  Remember a restart of the browser is required.

Let us know how things go and if this works to your liking.
