I have Norton 360 v6.2.1.5.It is not updating the toolbar in firefox (see related topic). If I uninstall and reinstall Norton 360 as per the recommendations there, how do I save and restore my Norton 360 settings?
I have made a lot of customizations to its settings and I don't want to have to manually note them all down and reapply them.
If you are referring to firewall rules when you mentioned custom settings, those can not be backed up.

What does it take to get a Symantec Engineer to answer?
OK, you asked: "If I uninstall and reinstall Norton 360 as per the recommendations there, how do I save and restore my Norton 360 settings?"
I gave you suggestions as to how to retain that information, I did not supply info as to how to "save and restore" because as far as I know - there is no way.

I have referred your previous request(s) and demands for a system engineer to Norton and they apparently have not responded yet - so I can't do anymore than to ask for a response for you. Sorry!

Sorry to hear that you've been having so many problems with Firefox-compatibility. From your previous thread you mentioned that your plugins were Norton Toolbar 2012.7.3.1 and Norton Vulnerability Protection 11.0.0.243 - 2. If running LiveUpdate and rebooting does not update it to 2012.7.4.1 then you should run the NRnR tool and reinstall N360/Firefox. This should only be a one-time thing until you get your system back to a good state. Afterwards I would recommend running LiveUpdate and getting the latest patch before upgrading Firefox.
Also, you requested a standalone file to make things work, which is something that we should refrain from. We don't want to create a custom solution that might work for a few weeks and then break patching later. We really want to get all our users to be working with the same flow. Please let us know if reinstall/uninstall works.
Regards,
Albert

First of all, I have not yet updated firefox -- it is still at 13.0.1 and I keep postponing the update because it tells me the Norton Toolbar isn't compatible with FF14. So in that sense I've already "followed" your "afterwards I would recommend" advice and it hasn't prevented this problem (which, as I've said has happened once before in a prevous version).
Furthermore, I spent a lot of time getting the Norton 360 settings just the way I want them, including a few firewall rules that I had to spend a lot of time to figure out to allow hMailServer to work (I use it to allow my backup software and my NAS server to email me problem reports). Before I uninstall/reinstall Norton 360, I need something to backup ALL of the Norton 360 settings and then restore them after the reinstall.
Furthermore, I don't consider a standalone installer (which most other extensions provide and actually host with Mozilla such that they ALWAYS update automatically without any problems whatsoever) to be a "custom" solution. And since Live update isn't doing it automatically, I EXPECT AND INSIST that Symantec provide me with a fix for the problem that doesn't require uininstalling, reinstalling, and manually reconfiguring 2 different programs (Firefox and Norton 360). And I certainly don't want to have to go through that every few months as Firefox keeps issuing major new releases and Norton 360 then fails to properly install the upgraded toolbar to support it. If it comes down to that, I may look for different security software when my Norton 360 subscriptions run out next year.
Please escalate this issue within Symantec.

Hi arothkin,
This issue can sometimes arise because of a problem with your Firefox profile. I would suggest creating a new Firefox profile to see if the correct toolbar appears in the add-ons there. If it does, you can move your bookmarks, cookies and other data over from the old profile - you would, of course not want to import any extension files or settings or you would be back in the same fix. All the information you need to do this can be found in the following Firefox KB article. I had to use this method once, myself, when I could not get the toolbar to update in my existing profile.

I had tried that when I had a similar problem with Firefox 7 and Norton 360 version 5.1.0.29. It didn't help then. So I'm not wasting my time with it now.

I totaly agree with srothkin. I've tried everything on this site. Everytime there's a new FF update the same thing happens.

Harley55,
I always update Norton before updating Firefox and have never had a problem.

Well I have NOT yet updated Firefox (it is still at 13.0.1), and I HAVE updated Norton, but it HASN'T updated the toolbar. The only reason the toolbar is still working for me is that I keep postponing the Firefox 14 upgrade. Symantec - provide a REAL fix for this!

This is just a suggestion.
You said you created firewall rules to fix issues that had worked OK in the past. I know you need to have your custom settings available in case you have those issues again.
When you do take the plunge and do the reinstall, try running with the default settings to see if the new installation will work with your setup.
