Hi Norton Experts,
Before I upgraded to Norton AntiVirus 11, I was able to share the Itunes music on my G5 imac on my Macbook Pro. Now I cannot. Is there an easy way that will enable me to share music by allowing firewall permissions. I've been poking around but can't find an answer in your forum that fits my problem. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!!!!!

You mentioned using NAV 11, but not NIS (which inciudes our Firewall component). Do you have that as well? I'm not aware of any conflicts between NAV and iTunes, but perhaps you have discovered something.
If you don't have NIS, could you see if temporarily disabling Auto-Protect makes any difference? You can do this from the yellow & black Symantec menu toward the top right of the menu bar. If so, it isn't a good permanent solution, but would give us some clues where to look.

Actually, I disabled Auto-Protect, Norton Confidential and vulnerability protection straight away because it had slowed the latest version of Firefox as to make it useless (dial-up speeds at best). Whenever my wife tires to access iTunes remotely from the laptop, I get the ping asking me to allow her access. I did twice but the connection never synched.
The version I recently downloaded -- 11.1.1 (2) -- includes Norton Internet Security for the Mac, a much busier version of NAV than I'd used since SystemWorks long ago (another program I had to uninstall due to demands on my system).
Any more suggestions, other than uninstalling Norton?

What operating system is running on your G5 iMac? Is it Mac OS 10.4? If you are running 10.5, then you should be receiving an alert from the firewall to prompt you to allow the connection from your MacBook Pro. However because Tiger does not provide this information to Norton Firewall, you will never receive this alert on Tiger. You'll need to set up the firewall manually.
1. Open the Norton Firewall application.
2. Click on the Firewall tab.
3. Click on Configure next to Connection Blocking.
4. Click on the "Assist me" button at the bottom.
Follow the steps in the assistant to allow connections using the iTunes application. You can choose to allow only your MacBook Pro or all connections.

I'm running 10.4.11, and did receive a couple of requests to allow iTunes to connect. I did both times, and it still didn't work.
So I reset Norton Firewall as you instructed, and tried to connect... no dice.
So I turned off Norton Firewall completely, and tried to connect... no dice.
A prompt that flashes on my MacBook Pro laptop (also running 10.4.11) says: "The shared library xxxx music is not responding (-3259). Check any firewall software running on either shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 49152."
Should turning off the firewall atogether do the trick? Any other tricks we can try before giving up on reconnecting iTunes?

Yes turning off Connection Blocking should definitely fix the problem. If it does not, then I am not sure what would be interfering with the iTunes Music Sharing feature.
Look in the Norton Firewall log and see if you have any activity related to iTunes. Also try turning off Vulnerability Protection (but you should definitely turn it back on after verifying it's not the cause of the problem, to remain secure).
