Re: AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not load the scan engine.

Thanks for the reply.  I used the removal app in the 12 distro and reinstalled.  Manual update still failed.  When the automatic Liveupdate ran it loaded the AV sig file successfully and AV protection started working.

Thanks for the help.

Re: AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not load the scan engine.

Hi

The Manual Update is compatible with NIS4 and NAV11 only. Glad to hear that the problem is resolved.

Hello,

I am having this same exact problem. I tried your fix and re-downloaded norton but the error still comes up. Any other suggestions?

Re: AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not load the scan engine.

This solution has worked for some people.  You'll need your activation key after doing this (available from Norton Account).

In Terminal (/Applications/Utilities), enter the following command:

sudo rm -f /private/var/db/com.symantec/Symantec.keychain

(you'll be asked to enter your admin password).

After doing that, restart, then reactivate the product. If this does not solve the issue, let me know and I'll have to check some additional data.  Note:  this solution applies to NAV 12.x and NIS 5.x, not earlier versions.

Re: AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not load the scan engine.

[ Edited ]

Running live update did not solve the issue but running the keychain delete command, restarting, reactivating with key worked. So thanks for the temp solution.

What bothers me is that I did not see a notice indicating scan engine was offline/failed to start. I have been making sure to manually start off live update most everyday (mostly use with laptop in sleep mode and back on; restart once in 2-3 weeks) as a safety over automated live update schedule... but that was no good with the scan engine offline.

Anyway I am glad Symantec has Norton for Mac Lion and I know you guys will have these issues fixed soon enough.

Thanks.
