Hey guys, hope someone can clear something up for me.
I'm a fairly recent Mac convert and long time NIS for windows user.
My partner bought me "internet Security Mac Edition Dual Protection" for christmas, which I installed and it ran, mostly.
Then I upgraded to Lion and my goodness does it have problems. Auto protect crashes and all sorts.
Now after trying to google a solution it appear that a much newer version of NIS is now avaialble to what I seem to be running. 4.1.1 via live update.
This version I have doesn't seem to have any kind of activation on it though, unlike windows where you have to register/renew etc - this one just runs although the box says I have 1 year of protection.
Does this mean I am eligible to upgrade to the latest version inside of that year? Bit confused how it works for the mac version vs the windows version which I know you can upgrade as many times as long as your subscription is valid.
Hope to hear from you :)

NIS 4 for Mac is definitely not compatible with OS X Lion, which explains all the problems you're experiencing.
Unfortunately, there is no free upgrade for NIS 5 for Mac, unlike what the Windows products offer, even though you have time left on your NIS 4 for Mac subscription. It would be nice if the Mac side of the business offered the same features and advantages, but for now you'd need to purchase NIS 5 for Mac.
Also note that NIS 5 for Mac comes with its own 1-year subscription; any time you have left on your current NIS 4 for Mac subscription would be lost.
P.S. If you want anti-phishing/safe web protection from malicious web sites, you'll need to use Firefox, as NIS 5 for Mac does not support Safari (or Google Chrome).

Hey, thanks for the reply!
Wow thats frustrating that they let her purchase this old outdated version of NIS even though it wasn't remotely compatible with Lion. Thats PC World for ya I guess.
Although I wasn't aware there was a newer version around either so 50/50 - plus didn't keep the receipt as I was so used to Norton products just registering to my account I didn't think I'd need it.
Ah well, my Birthday's coming up - guess I'll have to cross my fingers! :)
