Idle-Scan?

I have OS 10.7.2 with the latest NAV.  My idle-scan was working fine untile the end of the last year, but it doesn't seem to be working even when I left my computer on over night.  Does anyone has idea why?  I might have changed "Energy Saver" setting in System Preferences, but not sure which one is causing idle-scan not to run...

Re: Idle-Scan?

The Energy Saver setting shouold not have any effect, except maybe if your Mac goes to sleep too quickly after it goes idle. Obviously Idle Time scanning cannot do anything when your Mac was asleep. If your Mac isn't set tp sleep for at least 10 minutes or more, than that's not it.

Try the following:

1. Open the Terminal application in your Application -> Utilities folder.

2. In the Terminal application type "top" and hit return.

3. Let your Mac sit idle for several minues.

After a couple of minutes, note the numbers  in the second line of the window. It should say something like:

Load Avg: 0.47, 0.48, 0.51 CPU usage: 0.93% user, 1.28% sys, 97.77% idle

Re: Idle-Scan?

I disabled all "energy saver" features in System Preferences, like "computer sleep" and "put the hard disc to sleep," but idle-scan is still not running.  My last scan was 12/27/11.  How often is it supposed to run?  Does anyone know??

Thanks in advance.

Re: Idle-Scan?

There isn't a fixed schedule, it is based on activity on your computer.  If there is some program using a lot of CPU, you should see that in the "top" statistics, as Ryan indicated.  Also, have you checked in the Norton AntiVirus app to see if the feature is enabled?  There have been some reports of it becoming disabled (for unknown reasons).
