I recently upgraded my MAC to OS 10.7 Lion and installed Norton Anti-Virus 12 for MAC. I am a writer and the idle time back up is driving me nuts. While I am writing if I stop to consider a phrase or an idea Norton activates, scans the file and drops a folder on my desk top. This just about makes me want to uninstall Norton and get my money back. Can you tell me how to eliminate this problem? I have turned the idle time scan off but that makes no difference it still does it. In a typical writing session I might have 30 folders on my desk top. I use Pages for my writing. I would appreciate any help you can give me in this matter.

Can you elaborate a little on what files are being created on the desktop? This doesn't sound like NAV behavior, at least not intended behavior. Does disabling Automatic Virus Protection (the setting above Idle-time scanning) make any difference?

This happens when using Pages for manuscript preparation. I have tried turning off everything but it still does it. I can type a bit but when I stop to collect my thoughts or look up something it automatically scans the document, and creates a file on my desk top. My trash is full of these unnecessary files. HELP!!!

Could you tell me what the names of the files look like? I can't think of why NAV would be creating desktop files. If they still occur with Idle time scans and AutoProtect disabled, then you may have to look elsewhere. Maybe there is a setting in Pages? Did it just start happening after installing NAV? When you say "it scans", are you seeing some sort of progress window?

The folder it creates has the name of the document and in the folder it has a buildVersionHistory.plist, and index html and a quick look folder with a thumbnail.jpg. I looked in Pages for some possible solution but no luck. This didn't start until I installed OS X Lion and the new Virus program for that system. I'm sure at a loss and it slows down might writing to a crawl when I have to stop every time I pause and wait for it to do its thing.
I'm not sure that it is NAV's fault but I had to start somewhere. Thanks for whatever help you can give.

I googled "buildversionhistory.plist" and found this discussion:
Are you using Stuffit? It sounds like it may be auto-expanding what Pages is auto-saving.

That may be it. I went into the stuffit preferences and tweaked it a little and it doesn't do it as often now but still does it. I guess I will run a diagnostic on the system and see if something has gotten fouled up. Anyway, I'm still writing and groaning everytime it interupts me andjust trying to adapt for now since I have a deadline. Thanks for your help and I'll let you know how this all turns out.
