LiveUpdate Gets Too Much?

********** Hello Norton! I think that you might be Too Busy, Please wonder, "Why, Robert_A_Novy?" I tell. ********** LiveUpdate grabbed _newly_ 51.8 MB this morning. But I downloaded 51.4 MB just yesterday & 50.8 MB the day before yesterday. Today (Thursday), the Progress Bar was not even at 1/4 when Downloading ended & when Processing began. (Then, the Progress Bar began its full motion all of a sudden. Is this a symptom of a problem?) Why is LiveUpdate so darned busy with downloads? I tell about my computer now. I use a now-older Macintosh G4 with 640 MB of RAM & AGP Graphics. Scrimp-by I used-to with a _paltry_ 128 MB of RAM. I live in Asheville, North Carolina. My eldest brother, lives in far-away Fort Collins, Colorado. He added 512 MB as an early Birthday Gift in June. (My birthday is 17 July 1963.) But the Good News is that my Mac endured, even when it had to use Virtual Memory a-lot! :-) I have used several species of Macintosh since 1985. Get this, please: "I started with a MacPlus, which was capable back in 1985!" Thank you, Norton. :-) [Because I could, I Attached my portrait, from 24 April 2009.]

Re: LiveUpdate Gets Too Much?

Robert,

There is a special ssection here for Mac users so I've asked a moderator to move your message there to get better coverage.

You won't lose sight of it since there will still be a link here to the new location.

Re: LiveUpdate Gets Too Much?

I am not that familiar with the MAC side of Norton but from the sound of what you describe I would say that your Virus definitions are corrupted (not complete) somehow and Norton is thinking it needs to download an entire fresh set every time.

You can try resetting the Virus definitions by using the Intelligent Updater which will refresh you definitions to the latest published set.  You can download the Updater from here.  Once the Intelligent Updater has finished, run Live Update manually and see if there are any further updates.

Also, you might check to see if this is a version update of the program itself (say from version 11.0 to 11.5 or 12.0); just a thought.

Let us know how this turns out for you.
