Re: NAV For Mac 12: Automatic Antivirus Protection Unexpectedly Turned OFF

Hi Bob,

Just booted up the computer and checked NAV12.

Antivirus turned Off and in the Red - LU updated OK!

Just turned Antivirus on with no problems, but depends how long it lasts for.

If I hadn't checked the Status I wouldn't know that Antivirus was off!!!!

Which version of NAV are you running?  If you can get the location of the infected files, I can help you remove it.

Re: NAV For Mac 12: Automatic Antivirus Protection Unexpectedly Turned OFF

1. In the Norton AntiVirus application, if you hit the "View History" link (upper right of main window), you will get your scan & detection history.

2. Under Virus Detections, select the trojan detection that failed to repair/delete

3. In the Action menu at upper left of History window, select "Get Info..."

4. The window that appears will show the "scan path".  If you hit the "Show in Finder" button in that window, it should reveal the location of the trojan under Finder.  You should be able to delete it from there (you may need to enter your admin password).  If that doesn't work, let me know and I can give you a way of deleting it from the Terminal application.

Re: NAV For Mac 12: Automatic Antivirus Protection Unexpectedly Turned OFF

Just wanted to update that in the past 15 days, I've had no repeat instances of the problem I reported above of Automatic Antivirus Protection turning itself OFF without explanation.

I've been checking regularly.

During that period, there were numerous times were Live Update did a definitions install when I started the Mac and logged in.  So whatever was going on in the earlier failures, it is NOT as simple as whether a definitions install is pending at boot up and initial log in.

I'll continue to keep an eye on this.

Re: NAV For Mac 12: Automatic Antivirus Protection Unexpectedly Turned OFF

This is still happening for me.  I have noticed that each time I reboot the automatic anti-virus protection has been turned off.  I have to manually turn it on again after giving my systems password.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem please?

Re: NAV For Mac 12: Automatic Antivirus Protection Unexpectedly Turned OFF

I always assumed it turns off when downloading and installing the definition updates (which occurs usually after reboot if you allowed it and are connected to the internet) and when it periodically updates as well. And depending on how long it takes to download and install the update, it tends to be off for that length of time. The application history only shows when the update started, not when it finished. So if it's off for a few minutes of the update, then that may be normal. If there's no updates and you closed the window and re-opened and it still isn't on, then yea, something else might be going on. This is my take on it because it was the case in the beta version back then.

Re: NAV For Mac 12: Automatic Antivirus Protection Unexpectedly Turned OFF

I can't think of any reason it should disable itself during the update process, assuming there have been valid definitions previously loaded.  There should be no attempt to use the latest defs until they have been completely downloaded.  But please let me know if you can confirm this observation about when it disables, that could be a clue (to what remains a mystery, since we can't currently reproduce the issue internally).
