For those interested:
We were told back in October 2011 that Symantec is urgently working on a patch to ensure Safari (MAC) users could use Norton Toolbar (currently only works with Firefox if you are using a MAC). I followed up on this as would have expected an update by now. Symantec's response as of 20 January 2012:
"We have not received the source for the Safari browser yet and we are working on this with Safari, once their source code is released will be releasing a compatible plugin for the Safari 5.1 browser."
Bottom line, don't hold your breath for an update any time soon!

That's a disappointment. It's been a couple months since Mike Romo had posted about this topic, and I'd have thought that Symantec would have made some progress getting some functionality working, especially since some of their other competitors already offer limited functionality for Safari on OS X Lion.
Yes, Apple made changes to Safari, but other developers have managed to come up with new solutions without source code.
If a fully functional Safari toolbar is still months and months away, I think many of us would prefer minimal/limited Safari support/protection now, instead of waiting indefinitely with no web protection.

Can you give us any update at all about support for Safari on OS X Lion? Lion has been out for almost 7 months now, yet its native browser still isn't supported in NIS 5 for Mac.
Is anyone at Symantec actively working on getting the toolbar functioning with Safari 5.1, or has development stopped indefinitely?

We are indeed working on a solution but it will take a while. Sorry for the "no news" update.

Development is ongoing. But as stated previously, Safari has no means to run code inside the browser. It is sandboxed, and does not allow any code to be run inside the browser. . . .We are indeed working on a solution but it will take a while.
I deeply appreciate the efforts of Symantec's Mac team to continue work on a solution to a very complex problem. Thank you all so verry much for hanging in there.
How helpful are the folks at Apple in working with the team? Would it help for NIS 5 users who have AppleCare to communicate our concerns to Apple?

Support for Safari is still planned for an upcoming release of Norton Internet Security 5, but as you probably know by now, it's policy not to give any specific dates or information about unreleased features. Sorry I can't share more right now.

Has any progress been made regarding toolbar support for Safari?
I realize that you're planning on supporting Safari at some point, but do you see that happening anytime this year?
