Norton for Mac

Hi, I have Norton Internet Security for Mac running on my iMac with Leopard.  I plan on upgrading to Snow Leopard tomorrow, will I have any problems with Norton Internet Security running as it should?  Or will there be an update that I can download to make this compatible?  Thanks,

I believe we are in the process of publishing a F.A.Q. that will answer questions like this, but in short, we will be making an update available to address Snow Leopard issues "as soon as possible". I can't say when it will ship but we are working as fast as we can to address all our products.

In short, yes there are some problems. Namely, Norton AntiVirus the AutoProtect feature of Norton AntiVirus does not load on Snow Leopard, and the Norton toolbar does not load into Safari on 64-bit computers.

Snow Leopard will alert you when you install it as to what software is incompatible with Snow Leopard, and Norton AntiVirus will be among the products listed. However these incompatibilities should not interfere with your day-to-day activity, and when our update is released using LiveUpdate, Norton Internet Security will be running 100%.

No.  Norton for Mac doesnt work.  The antivirus doesnt autoprotect and if you're using NIS, norton confidential says that it's not even installed.  It also does not created the norton folder in the appropriate place and when you try to uninstall it, it says something like "no norton product found".

When is this going to be fixed?  Your PAYING customers want to know.

Mcafee, Iavtivirus, Clamx, etc all work.  Only Norton is not working. 

When my subscriptions run out I will never buy a Norton product again.  This should have been working from the time Snow Leopard was released.  No excuses.

The timer is ticking on my paid subscription and Norton wont even give an ETA on the fix.

I don't like stating the obvious, but according to APPLE.COM, McAfee is ALSO on the "does not work" list, along with pretty much ANY auto-scan antivirus.

This is due to changes in the antimalware code in OS X.

If you have a problem with not having autoscan abilities (as this is the ONLY problem noted, regular scans work FINE), then you should not have upgraded to 10.6.  There are dozens of websites (apple.com included) that list EVERY program with compatibility issues.  You could have easily checked one of them for your programs before installing 10.6.

The autoprotect isn't the only part of NIS that's not working. And I installed Mcafee on my macbook. Installed and ran fine.

Hi Spede--

1 - we don't get the real version of Mac OS X 10.6 until you do. I think if you take a look around, you will see that we are not the only security provider trying to revamp our software for 10.6. (Yes, we get the seeds, but there have been changes between the last build and the release build in the past.)

2 - No one is forcing you to update to Mac OS X 10.6. Indeed, many of the reviews suggest waiting until vendors can update their products for full compatibility.  I think it's fair to say that your frustrations are a standard part of being a Mac OS X early adoptor. 

3 - You will see a fix as quickly as we can make it. 

4 - You comparisons to other software products are unfair. We do far more than any of those products do.

I have installed Snow Leopard.  I am now getting an error stating

1. Norton Antivirus Auto Protect code 10 could not load
2. Real time scanning make sure installed propery 

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Norton Antivirus and am stil getting the same error messages.  What do I need to do?

Norton isn't compatible with snow leopard(yet).  And apparently no ETA on fix.  Although it took them over a month to get the tool bar and IPS working on Firefox 3.5 (on the PC side), so I look for it to be awhile.

You'll either need to remove Norton or (put technology on hold and) reinstall O/S X until Norton can catch up with the other antivirus programs.

I am using the free Iantivirus from PCtools atm.

Hi mike, 

I have just installed Norton Internet Security for Mac to myMac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.

I have noticed it fail to install Norton confidential and with error message for the reinstall.

So I reinstall it again and end up with two Norton running on my mac but the Norton confidential still fail to installed. Only when I come across the Norton Community to found out the story. So I guest I have to wait for Symantec to catch up for the upgrade to fix this issue. 

Meanwhile, could you kindly advise me how to remove Norton Internet Security from my Mac please, as I have two running which I only need one. I did try to run the Symantec Uninstaller from the Applications folder but still not working.

 Much appreciated your help.
