Norton for Mac

I have Norton 2.2 (16) on my MacBook Pro with OS 10.7.4. The menu bar is getting crowded. Is there a reason the Norton icon needs to be on the menu bar, other than convenience? If not, and it is ok to remove it, how can I remove it? Thank you.

If you run System Preferences, there is a Norton QuickMenu pane.  The icon can be removed by unchecking the "Enable Norton QuickMenu" box.
