Iʻm running Norton Antivirus 11.0.2 for a Macbook running 10.5.6.
I recently had a message saying Virus "Did not have permission to repair" detected.
Now Norton Antivirus takes awhile to load at start up. Also the Lock to prevent changes unlocks and locks itself randomly.
I scanned the entire system for viruses and nothing was found.
Do I have a virus. If so what should I do to remove it.
Thanks

I ended up erasing my hard drive and reinstalling everything.
Now I have an error message saying, Virus "Infected file could not be repaired. Archive restored."
Whatʻs up with this?

Hi OAsurf,
I'll try to help out here. FIrst of all, OA, just take a deep breath and relax; you're running a Mac after all!

If NAV detects a virus in a file, it will be quarantined, then, you can either delete it or have NAV attempt to repair it, either automatically or manually. Settings are made in Auto-protect 'Configure' under the 'General' tab.

NAV is unlocked for 5 minutes after log-in so that you can have access, then locks itself. It was designed this way. (ya, I don't like it either!)

Since you re-installed NAV, you need to run liveupdate to get 11.0.2 again. This message (a bug) should then disappear.
#4
Iʻve tried going to terminal and running "navx -c" and everytime it says, "Scan ened because of a scan error". Iʻm starting to think this is virus not a bug. Can anyone help me get rid of it? Norton? Anyone?
I'm not familiar with this terminal stuff, but, if you run live update and then do a full disk scan manually (via NAV interface), you should be okay.

The Message, Virus "Did not have permission to repair" detected, has now shown up on my other Mac. I have wiped both computers and reinstalled norton internet security and updated them.
And the message keeps coming back.
Is there a norton employee who can help me?
Thanks

I'm having this same exact problem.
Also, Norton closes when I attempt to choose files
When I run a system scan, the scan stops midway bu
Programs have stopped unexpectedly, numerous times
I'm also no longer able to access my Safari "Preferences".
I'm really concerned and would like a response from Norton as well.

MBP intel 2.4GHz running Mac OS X 10.5.7
Alert in Norton AntiVirus 11.0.2 (35) window:
Virus "Did not have permission to repair" detected, Jun 6,
A click on that to reveal log, delving into log reveals incident:
6/6/09 11:19 AM Auto Disk Scan Error Did not have permission to repair
next incident:
6/6/09 11:19 AM Auto Disk Scan 1 Problem <no entry shown in Details>
6/6/09 11:19 AM Auto Disk Scan No Problems <no entry shown in Details>
Please note that this is the ONLY time the words, "No Problems" appear in the result column -- all other similar entries state, "0 Problems". To me, that indicates an influence from beyond the application itself. Very alarming.
I can't seem to detect any other issues arsing from this, but if someone has hacked Norton, won't Norton look silly, and won;t we be scr@wed! Please take this seriouosly enough to help investigate this oddity that has already been replicated. Thanks!

I am trying to reproduce this issue. Please give me some information.
1. This is marked as an Auto Disk Scan, did this scan occur at startup ( login ) or after you attached a peripheral ( external drive, USB flash drive etc. ) or ?
2. Do you "auto-login" to your account or does the start up screen appear first?
3. Do you automatically mount any network drives at start up?
I will probably have more questions. Just these for now.

For me:-
Occurs at manual (screen) login. LaCie external HD mounts at start up. Has occured twice since mid-May. Possibly related to the updates that came out just prior to that time (at least that's when it first appeared for me.).
Thanks,

JDH, Thanks very sincerely for your interest. In answer to your questions:
1. I believe this particular instance resulted from Firewire 800 plugging ext. 1TB WD HD
2. "auto login", very rarely sign out, only user on this machine
3. No auto-mount network drives at startup, except on Fridays, back-up day (the 6th was a Saturday)
And curiouser and curiouser, I am attaching some screenshots I just took... the warning I originally wrote about has disappeared from BOTH the UI *and* the log! (The warning now goes 'way back to a Nov. '08 incident related to an infected CD, something that never caused a problem at that time, nor since.)
Weird. And there have been a huge volume of Product Updates (see addl. Log screenshots) yesterday and today... UI says, "next Scheduled Scan: Nothing scheduled" and "Next Product Update: Tomorrow at 10:00 AM" - is this stuff pushed out by you guys? 'cuz I don't recall ever setting a daily preference to update...
