Hi there:
I am contemplating buying a Mac, at the next product refresh.
Apple says that the Mac is not subject to the same attack vectors that the PC is currently subject to.
Is there really any truth to this statement?
If so, what protection does NIS - 5 for Mac provide me that is different from the Windows platform?
Thanks for your advice,
Atomic_Blast :)

There are Mac-specific threats. Here are a couple recent examples:

Also, keep in mind that there is more to NIS than AntiVirus protection. It also provides Vulnerability Protection, AntiPhishing, and Firewall.

Hi Lee_G:
So basically the MAC is not immune to intrusions, as was pitched to me.
OK. Thanks.

Nothing is immune. However there are tons less malware on a Mac and Mac's aren't likely to become infected unless you're really trying. I would always run some sort of antivirus program on any OS (Linux, Mac and especially Windows)..Better safe than sorry.
Unless I am misreading the links under 50 computers have been infected with those specified malware.
