norton firewall blocks mac app store

[ Edited ]

The mac app store is blocked by norton firewall. When one tries to add storeagent, which is found in privateframworks/commerceframwork, etc. the frameworks are greyed out and unselectable. Yet your application blocking is the culprit that is blocking it. no sweat unblocking appstore.app but what about the frameworks. storeagent is necessary and needs to be unblocked to use the app store and your app just dont cut it. is there a work around or will you fix it already.

Strike Two, and this one is almost comical if it weren't so well, blantently, ummm, sorry, stupid? Application blocking is blocking the java install (which I dont want on my machine in the first place, who said SECURITY HOLE) which can't be unblocked because it resides in /System/Library/Java/Support/CoreDeploy.bundle/Contents/Download Java Components.app/Contents/MacOS/Download Java, another location which is greyed out by the obviously superior norton firewall. So good it even blocks its own updates, and those of apples software update system. geez. I thought norton was going to help keep that hacker out of my machine, I wont start with the errors flushing, and the inability to completely block this already compromised system (during bootup I get a loud "your computer is not protected" warning upon the load of the norton firewall. We'll take one problem at a time.

Re: norton firewall blocks mac app store

You are looking in the wrong folder. The path is /System/Library/PrivateFramewroks, but you are looking in /Library/PrivateFrameworks.

But regardless, the real problem is that you are using Norton Intenet Security 4 on Lion. Norton Internet Security 5 is the only supported version for Lion.

Re: norton firewall blocks mac app store

It doesn't matter where I look the folders underneath privateframeworks are greyed out. If it is as you say the version I am using why are they greyed out with this version? Still seems like it would be necessary to select them even in lion or snow leopard...

Now I can't uninstall norton, it leaves most of the files behind when I tried to unintall. And the version 5 you said is compatible just sits and spins when I try to install, no matter what the setting is in the security panel of preferences. How do I get rid of the older comcast norton and get the new one installed so I have a firewall that works?

Thank you

Re: norton firewall blocks mac app store

Sorry for the problems uninstalling; the older product's uninstaller appears broken on the newer operating systems. We'll have to look into that.

Please try following the instructions here:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=20080427024142EN&product...

Restart your Mac after running the tool there, and then try installing the version 5 product.
