scan error on mac

Hi, I just installed norton internet utility on my mac and the internet protection appears to be working, but the antivirus won't scan.  I keep getting the scan error message that the scan failed because of a scan engine problem and to use the live update, which I have done 5 times and restarted my computer at least 5 times.... I also uninstalled the antivirus and then reinstalled, but no luck.  Does anyone know of a solution to get this to work on my OS X lion 7.0?????

Re: scan error on mac

I am not sure if the problem you are seeing is the same as one addressed by these instructions, but it is probably worth trying:

You'll need your activation key after doing this (available from Norton Account).

In Terminal (/Applications/Utilities), enter the following command:

       sudo rm -f /private/var/db/com.symantec/Symantec.keychain

(you'll be asked to enter your admin password).

After doing that, restart, then reactivate the product.

Re: scan error on mac

I'm having the same issue.  I followed the instructions for Terminal, and got this message after I entered my admin password:

rm: illegal option -- /
usage: rm [-f | -i] [-dPRrvW] file ...
unlink file

I have no idea what that means, but when I restarted my computer and clicked on my Anti-virus program, it shows that my license is still activated and am still having the same issues with the scan engine.  I've run Live Update several times and each time it says that my product is up to date, but still can't get any results.

Re: scan error on mac

Apparently the Terminal command was entered incorrectly.  I'm not sure from the error message, but since it doesn't seem to have interpreted the / as part of the path, maybe there was no space after the -f part of the command.  You may want to try a copy/paste of the command into Terminal.

I am having the same problem.  NAV was working fine until today when I suddenly got the error message that the scan engine cannot be loaded.  I entered your code into terminal and reregistered my product, but the problem still exists.  Nothing is being scanned.  I am running Lion 10.7.4 on an iMac.  I ran Live Update several times and am competely up to date.

Re: scan error on mac

My computer was turned off overnight and this morning NAV was working fine.  I did have to reactivate.  Maybe just doing a restart doesn't give NAV enought time to reset itself after entering the sudo command in terminal.  At any rate, problem solved.
