Norton for Mac

Help please! I have the Norton Antivirus for my mac, and I was having problems with it, so I completely delteted it off my computer, and re-dowloaded it, but I'm still having the same problems.  

My problem is this. Whenever I do a scan of the whole computer, it will literally scan for forever. I let is scan all night and right now it is on item 7,330,292 of 2,260,198. That is not possible! I would really appreciate some help(:

One known cause of this occurs when scanning a Time Machine volume (it has to do with the structure of the backups).  If you are including a TM volume you can try excluding that to see if it helps.

We do have a time machine back up plugged into the computer. That's probaly what it is. Thank you so much!
