Hello,
I want to set up parental control software on my son's pc, and want to know which product to go with. His pc is a pentium 4 running XP Professional with SP3. It also has Norton Internet Security 2009 running on it, and no other internet security/anti virus software. He has both the Firefox and IE8 browsers.
My son only visits about 5 sites regularly, so I want to use the program that will keep him only on those sites without slowing down his computer (it is already kind of slow). The main sites he visits are kiddie game sites (clubpenguin, playcrafter, and roblox.com). He doesn't use any email or instant messaging.
If I could block out all other sites except for the few he visits he would probably be happy enough--and then whitelist the ones he wants to go to. My main concern is not further slowing down his computer--so in this instance, would the Parental Control add on be the way to go, or is Online Family Norton a better choice? Which would allow me to limit his sites to just the safe ones that I designate, without slowing his computer down? And if speed is not an issue to distinguish between them, what features does Online Family Norton have that makes it the better choice?
Sorry for the elementary questions, but I'm just getting started with this whole Parental Control thing,
Thanks--Pcmom4

Hi Pcmom4,
These are great questions. OnlineFamily.Norton is a huge improvement comparing with the Norton Parental Control Add-ON Pack, with lots of more parental control features and it's a very flexible program. OnlineFamily.Norton doesn’t slow down any internet surfing. It doesn’t matter you only allow the kid to access five websites or more than that.
Since you want to allow the kids to be on about five sites, you can do the following two things:
- Add all these five sites to the allowed list. The following link shows you how to allow access to a Web site on your child’s computer https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/help/
allowing-a-website.jsp
2. Block all categories of Web sites. The link shows you how to block access to multiple categories of Web sites https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/help/
If you have any questions, please let us know.
Thanks,
Katie
