My Ghost 15 is scheduled to run backups at 18:00 every day. But it still asks me “Allow backup now ?” before going ahead.
Is there a way to disable this and tell it to always go ahead without asking ?

Hi,
If you are using the computer at 1800 Ghost wil always ask you for permission. If you change the time to when you are not usually at the computer it will recognize that it is idle and begin the backup without requesting anything. If you need to keep the time at 1800 then I'd suggest that you take a ten minute break about that time and know that the computer will be operating more slowly while Ghost is creating the backup. Using the computer and doing a backup only means that you are forcing the system to share its resources between the tasks.

Thank you for your response, Dick. I appreciate your advice and comments.
So Ghost is just being polite in asking if I want to go ahead. The problem is that it comes across as simply an annoyance. Having scheduled for 18:00 I’d like it to just go ahead at 18:00. Maybe a future release could make this question optional ?
Here’s another one too : when I boot in the morning Ghost informs me that some backups are not available. Well, I know that because they’re on an external drive which may not be on-line at that point. Another “helpful” message which is simply annoying.

Hi,
The thought behind the notice is that there will be an impact on performance when the backup process is working. The possibly 'sudden' in loss of performance maight be more annoying than the notice before the process starts. The notice also provides you with an option to delay the start of the process if you require 100% of your systems resources for your current activity.
The notice about the missing drives is, to me, a bit more important. If I'm deep into things for an extended period and then take a break I really don't want to miss a backup. A quick check to make sure the system hardware is all there and operational seems like a minor inconvenience which is possibly preventing a major problem.
I'm not that bothered by those notices. Based on the number of comments that have been made about them I don't think they are bugging too many people too badly. You can post a message in the product improvements forum with your suggestions and a solid justification. That's where the staff goes to find ideas to include in future releases. Maybe they will make the notices optional at some point. Til then

Thanks again for your comments, Dick.
I understand your reasoning, but I don’t agree with it.
When I schedule a backup at 18:00 I mean “Back up at 18:00”, I do not mean “back up at 18:00 after you’ve checked with me again to see if that’s really what I want”.
And for the “not online message” I can appreciate its value if at 17:45 the destination drive is not available, but the message is completely useless at 06:00 every morning.
However, whatever your preferences may be, if there were an option to enable/disable these messages then everyone could be happy. After all, there is a “notifications” section in “Options”.
