Using Ghost 9.0, created disc backup copy to external HD, then tried to install this copy onto new, exactly same model/brand Hitachi HD, which completed successfully, but boot stopped with first black screen with the above message.
I tried installing XP from disc on same HD drive--it boots, then copied this XP version to same ext HD, tried copying original backup copy again with same boot failure message, then copied the XP backup copy, and it boots fine.
I was also copied from original HD to new HD using copy disc with both HDs installed in tower, but again same boot error message.
Any suggestions?

When you made the image or performed the copy drive function, did you select to copy the boot record and set to active?

When I copied the HD to ext drive as well as when I tried to copy drive from the original HD to the second slave HD in the computer, I got the same boot up messages as described. I checked all of the boxes available when copying including verify info, restore original disk signature and MBR as well as set the drive to active box.
When copying the info there isn't any choice of what to copy, is there? I thought I was copying the entire HD, and even asked to verify the copy, and received an okay message the completion, when copying to the external drive as well as when I copied from original HD to the internal slave HD.

Yes, I did remove original HD and had the jumpers set to cable select for both HDs before.
Of interest is the fact I installed a copy of XP onto the new HD, made a copy of this with Ghost 9.0 to my external HD, then copied this new copy back onto the new HD (eraser everything in this process according to Ghosts warning message), and this copy back worked just fine, booting up computer. I then tried reinstalling the copy of the original HD onto the new HD, and again got exactly the same error message when booting
So the program worked with the copy of the XP OS I had copied onto the external drive, but not the copy of the original HD. I copied and reinstalled using same method. I think I have tried everything, but unfortunately the original HD process doesn't seem to duplicate going through the external HD approach or even directly copying when both HD are in the computer.
The copy of the HD is on the new drive when I check that drive under My Computer, but obviously something isn't allowing the boot process to even start
Any other ideas?

I'm having difficulty finding a copy of Ghost 9 or the user's guide. Do you still have the user's guide or manual? Instructions on how to mount an image can be found in the user's guide. If I find a copy I'll let you know, but it's proving difficult.

You could also use the image to restore data and then create a new image from scratch.
