Is Norton backup capable of backing up  a 500 GB hard  drive?

which Norton product are you interested in?

Norton Online Backup (this one have less backup storage space), Norton Ghost 15 (this can do it to an external storage), or Norton 360 (setting it up to do this would be a bit more difficult then Ghost, but can do, only to external storage).

To creat full HDD/partition backups I would recommend Norton Ghost 15.

I should have been more specific - sorry.

I was referring to the back up and restore aspect of Norton Security Suite 4.0.3.5.

I have imaging software but I was curious about the back  program within the suite.

I suspect it is for file back up and programs like Ghost are for a full system image or backup.

The reason I asked was because the back up program within the security suite allows you to select C: as the drive to back up and the external usb drive as the backup lcation. I fiddled with it but it seems not to want to back up C:

Hi Anna,

it is possible to backup the whole C: drive to the external HDD as well, but Norton Security Suite has only file backing up feature, so restoring the whole system will be not possible, as windows files would not be overwritten during the restore (as they are in use).

To get a full featured backup program I would recommend you Norton Ghost 15, it is a very powerful tool, you can do everything with it about backing up (partions, full HDD, incremental backup sets, file backup, recovery manager, etc.).

The other what I can suggest you is the free edtion of Paragon Backup & Recovery, it supports simple partion backup as well.

I understand.

I have a license for Acronis True Image  Home  2101 but it really needs to be stabilized.   2011 is even worse and the company is working on it. The latest build releases were very troublesome.

I use Macrium Reflect as has been a sturdy program to backup your system or just to pick up a lost file.

I will look into paragon. Thank you
