No, for some reason from windows it would not save the changes. Thats why it took me so long to figure it out.
I would make the changes, then go back and open ptedit again and it would be unchanged. Both ptedit and the vol command would show it unchanged.

Perhaps if I rebooted it would have, I'll try that.
But it worked fine running it from the recovery disk and when I closed and reopened ptedit it showed the change, it just didn't show the change from the vol command until a reboot.

Correction- it does work from windows.
It does actually change the disk ID. I was just unable to see the change in either my hex editor or the vol command until I rebooted.
Levi, ptedit is a Symantec tool. You shouldn't have any problems using it since you got Ghost approved.
It's also a stand alone tool that needs no installation.
If your under strict rules about adding anything at all to the deployed systems, you could run the tool off a flash drive from the recovery disk as well.
