Comcast Customers - Norton Tool Bar Problem in Firefox 10

When is Norton going to issue an update to Comcast customers who are using the "special version" of the Norton 360 product called "Norton Security Suite" that will fix the broken Norton Toolbar and make it compatible with Firefox 10?

This forum states it is already available for Norton 360 and gives instructions on how to obtain it using Liveupdate, however it wasn't stated there that this does process does not work for Comcast customers who may have read the information and already wasted their time trying it multiple times.  Norton should state this in the instructions for the update.

Is there a forum for Comcast/Norton Security Suite customers?  Why is Norton treating us differently than other 360 users?  Why isn't Norton being more proactive about releasing updates for Firefox, INCLUDING FOR COMCAST CUSTOMERS, now that Firefox is on a regular monthly update cycle?  Why are we left in this situation where we are forced to choose between losing access to our valuable security data locked up in Norton's identity safe or else lose the security updates available in the new browser version?

Please help us!  Get us the update that will allow us to continue using our browser in the normal manner!

BrianZ,

The points you bring up and the questions you ask were all answered in your posts in regards to FF 7 and the NSS update being delayed.

Your problems of not having a NTB can be solved by simply following the advise to wait until the after the update for NSS comes out prior to updating to the latest FF.  FF 9.01 still provides the NTB in NSS.

IMHO, when a browser is being updated every month or so, there can not be many holes in the all great heralded FF (or they have been there all along and no one ws told about them - oh no wait that's what they say about IE)  Don't misunderstand me I am not saying the security updates are not necessary, but you have been living with them prior to applying the updates anyway.

Yes, there is a forum where Norton desires the Comcast Norton Security Suite posts should be.  That is the Other Products board where I will ask this thread to be moved to.

Re: Comcast Customers - Norton Tool Bar Problem in Firefox 10

Hi BrianZ,

Just found this in reviewing what transpired overnight:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Update-Norton-360-V5-2-0-13/m-p/651567/highlight/true#M656...

"If you're using Norton Security Suite from Comcast, the 5.2 patch is not available yet for that particular product."

I'll update when I have more information! :smileyhappy:

Cheers,

Re: Comcast Customers - Norton Tool Bar Problem in Firefox 10

Thanks for your comments and info about the correct forum.

I had forgotten we went through this delay before with Norton and FF7, and so the same old problem continues, whatever it is.  I don't know how to find the old FF7 information you're referring to.

I still didn't hear if there is any estimate of when the new update is expected, or why we don't have it yet, when the main 360 product customers already have it.

Thanks again.

Click on your user name (above your avatar).  This will take you to your About page.  All of you posts will listed there undr Recent Posts.  To go back farther, there is a View ALL at the bottom right of that section.  Clicking on it will display posts that are older than the ones originally shown.

I have not heard of an estimate as to when it will be released, and normally most companies do not post dates for release until they are actually released.  There are many things that could be encountered in the last phases of the testing of the new update that could take longer to fix than anticipated, thus companies feel it best to not give exact dates.

Thanks again.

I have been through all the upgrades and updates of Norton Securtiy Suite and Comcast is always updated/upgraded after all the commercial users.  Remember, some of the upgrades are released in English only initially and then released in all the other languages Norton covers.  So there are quite a few releases that need to be accomplished, one of which is Comcast's.

I have also found over the years, that when Comcast does finally get an upgrade, it has already been in the feld and Norton has had a chance to iron out any glitches that may occur, be it system or program related.  In that respect, the wait actually helps avoid any situations other users have experienced.

Re: Comcast Customers - Norton Tool Bar Problem in Firefox 10

Good point, thanks.

I guess I should not have any expectations then, that any compatibility releases will come on time from Norton in the future, at least as long as I'm with Comcast.  I probably wouldn't have had higher expectations if Mozilla had not been promoting their new Firefox 10 before it was released as having the new feature that all add-ons would be automatically compatible and just work.  A case of The Emperor's New Clothes I guess.

Re: Comcast Customers - Norton Tool Bar Problem in Firefox 10

I am very frustrated with Comcast regarding their insistence that we run their branded version of Norton Security Suite. I was running a paid 20122 NSS and was forced to switch to Comcast's version due to Comcast's security bot alert banners splashed across every site I visited. Although Norton confirmed that I was NOT infected, and my paid NSS was updated and running fine, they said that Comcast would continue to bombard me with these bot alerts until I uninstalled NSS and installed the Comcast NSS.

Calling Comcast's tech support was no help. I was given NO alternative to keep my 2012 NSS and had to go through the whole process of uninstalling and reinstalling and updating (MANY times) Comcast's NSS. And now Comcast's NSS is a step backwards! It has no support for Firefox 10 toolbar and an inferior user interface. Plus, my CPU was running near 80% capacity with Comcast Security Guard. VERY unhappy with Comcast for being forced to use their inferior product when I was doing fine (according to Norton tech support) with the paid version of 2012 NSS!

Re: Comcast Customers - Norton Tool Bar Problem in Firefox 10

@ martin76,

Comcst does not reuire you to use NSS.  You are free to run any AntiVirus/security program you desire to.  If you do not desire to use the Comcast version, you will not be forced to use it and Norton tech support was incorrect in telling you that Comcast would bombard you with the BIOT alertsunitl you unistalled NIS and installed NSS.  Comcast will continue to bombard you with BOT notices, no matter what AV you use - if their system is detecting BOT actuivity.

I understand your frustration, as I am running NIS 2012/FF10 on one of my systems and NSS/FF9.0.1 on another system as NSS is still not compatable with FF10 (as far as the NTB goes).

Just curious, do you have the Constant Guard Protection Suite installed?  If so, that can be the cause of your slowness.

Has your subscription to NIS 2012 expired yet?   You should be able to go here:  https://account.norton.com/amsweb/default.do?displayLogin=true&ssdcat=264&spskup=20032950&spskum=211...  sign-in using the email address and password you used for NIS 2012 to check that date.  If it is still current, and you desire, we can discuss how to get your off NSs and back on NIS2012.

I am curious about the banners you are referring to.  I have heard of emails and even phone calls regarding BOTS, but the banners are something new to me.  A screenshot would be nice - although probably not available.

Please post back with answers and let us know what you want to do.

Re: Comcast Customers - Norton Tool Bar Problem in Firefox 10

Just a quick update:

Finally, the updates are available for Norton Security Suite

You need to run a manual LiveUpdate in order to get version 5.2.0.13, followed by a reboot and then run another manual LiveUpdate to get the compatibility patch for Firefox 10 and then reboot again.

At that point in time I upgraded to FF 10 (via FF Help About - permitting the 10.8 MB download and permitting the Apply Update) and viola, I have FF 10.0, NSS 5.2.0.13 and the Norton Toolbar and signed into ID Safe.

Re: Comcast Customers - Norton Tool Bar Problem in Firefox 10

I finally got the Comcast version/Norton Security Suite update yesterday with the Firefox 10-compatible Norton Toolbar, also via manually running liveupdate.  Finally I was able to upgrade to FF10 after a week of waiting for Norton to release it, which I still say is not very efficient.  Glad to finally have it though.

I'm still wondering why liveupdate does not automatically retrieve the update, or better yet, notify you that it is available so you can know when to get it without having to keep running liveupdate manually everyday until Norton decides to release it.
