I have read this Thread , as to the SOLUTION of WHY COMCAST version of 360 is slow ........
well to begin with ....
SLOW SPEED:: ( as suggested that there MIGHT BE some issues with INSTALL process) ,,,,,, I can assure you its not !!!
as if you have had MacAfee ( or another virus software) NORTON WILL ( and DOES) remove them well and correctly!!!!
So I don't see the point - where the "solution' given to solve the SLOW SPEED = the install process.
I for one , am a Software developer , and do know little bit about APPS and OS and "left over software etc" as the MAJOR REASON used by support staff to say .... fix = install again , do this do that !!!
FACT are:
Comcast switched VIRUS software as part of "managing WEBSITES/URLs" it can BLOCK and or SLOW DOWN for its own gain !! NORTON BACK OFFICE ( applications that you dont see that is Installed at COMCAST servers) manage to keep every URL and page you go to , and then it uses that info to "filter/ drop/cut comunications to" if COMCAST decides that there are any URLS or PAGES it dont like , they WILL BAN it.
I HAVE DOCUMENTED this BEHAVIOR and MANAGED to get these documents and written a SUBMISSIONS to FCC and FTC and have a registered complaint number. I will be providing these and other relevant info , at the next hearing.
I do NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES with comcast nor with NORTON ( or their respective owners and staff) however I am of the FIRM belief that :FILTERING or INTERNET and its CONTENTS is not the job of ISP nor anyone one person or group!!
I hope this brings some light to this ISSUE of "slow connection with Norton virus software"..... and people get informed.
Thanks and cheers

This service clearly slows down the PC!.
I would like to be able to simply shut it off (not uninstall) when running the applications that it slows down.
I called the number 877-272-7149 and get a broken-english speaking "tech". They could not help, no less understand what I needed to do. DANGER - they will want to do a screen-share and start a troubleshooting process - and commence to changing your PC settings.
I guess I'm just going to have to dump this freebie and buy something I have more control over.

You stated in the title of your post that the "solution was incorrect". Well, if it corrected the OP's problem, how can it be incorrect?
If you " would like to be able to simply shut it off (not uninstall) when running the applications that it slows down", what are the apps you'd like to run and what would you like to simply shut off? ie, what is it?
Yup, in the end, "they" will probably want to take control of your system and change some settings that you have possibly incorreclty set.. BTW, have they mentioned may be infected yet?
I know there are experienced folks on this forum who would be more than willing to hep you thru your problems if you state them clearly. However, coming on here and ranting about incorrect solutions (after someone says their problem has been corrected by the solution) is not the recommended approach for asking for assistance.

For the title, I just hit the reply button to carry on the conversation - the original title follows the post.
"coming on here and ranting about incorrect solutions" - Sorry, I had just finished the "shared" session with Norton and was upset - after googling, I found this forum and was still in Vent Mode.
OK - Applications. Any that require large amounts of data to load, like for example - eBay. After the installation of CNSS one of my searches can literally take 2-3 minutes to complete, all the while my memory is maxed and the cooling fans are in turbo mode. Prior to CNSS, and with Comcast McAffee, the same search would take 5 seconds. This also happens on similar sites like eBay. My home page is Yahoo, and that must be refreshed several times for it to completely load up. The snags seem to happen when ads are trying to load. This happens in explorer (which is typically slow itself), firefox, and safari.
Previous infections? - If there were any, they did not affect load speed previous to CNSS. In addition, CNSS should find them and flag/quarantine them, No?
That's why I'm looking for a way to shut it off without uninstallation to see if it indeed is the cause. I'm also afraid to uninstall it now as residual files will most likely stay behind and cause corruption later on. I had a similar experience with McAfee and had to beg Comcast to send me an application that would clear out McAfee in a more complete manner than simply doing "uninstall".
In any event, the conclusion is that my internet "experience" has hit the slow lane since installation of CNSS.

CNSS-SLOW - undersatnd about your rant mode after the "shared session". ![]()
I would like to suggest that you start a new thread stating your problem, including your OS and if you did or did not use the McAfee Removal Tool prior to your install of CNSS. A new thread will get more visibility than postng in a solved thread.
I'm thinking perhaps the install of CNSS may have been corrupted by some of McAfee remaining. BTW, do you also have the COMCAST Toolbar installed? That also has casued wome problems in the past conflicting with CNSS.

I agree with the new post idea, I can understand your frustraton but folks may not get past the first post to help. Also its hi'lighted as solved maybe you could click not solved or just repost. Im not sure which works best.
Im wondering if setting your norton product to silent mode whilst you use these programs would be enough to help?
It puts heavy norton works on the rear burner so to speak and lets you work.
Its in menu selections.
