Computer freezing after installation of Norton Utilities

[ Edited ]

I recently renewed my subscription online and downloaded Norton utilities also. I ran the utilities, i dont kow quite whats happened but since I did these two things when on the internet my computer freezes especially if I have more than one window open, it was fine before. I uninstalled utilities and tried to system restore, it wont let me restore to any previous point, I went on Norton web site and got the 2011 upgrade, its still the same, Im lucky to be here, it just keeps freezing , I cant go on youtube any forum basic web sites such as property sites, it freezes and shuts down. Like I said it was fine before I renewed and downloaded utilities.................. help from a newb

Hi Gill

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums

In order to run a system restore you need to disable Norton 's Tamper Protection.

Re: Help

To turn off tamper protection go to settings-->Miscilionious setings-->Click on the toggle behind the "Norton Tamper protection."

HI Gill,

After using System restore to restore your computer to an earlier time is Norton still installed? What is the current state with regards to your Norton software? Which Norton product do you have? Is it NIS, NAV or N360? What was your previous version of Norton software before you upgraded to 2011?

What OS and SP do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit?

Do you currently have any other security products installed on your computer?

Best wishes.

Allen

Re: Help

When you ran the utilities, did it ask if you wanted to do a backup.  You may have cleaned something necessary.

This should not be an issue now since system restore was used to restore to an earlier point.

There was an earlier bug affecting 64 bit Windows and using registry defrag which could make the system unbootable. This was fixed in Norton Utilities version 14.5.0.118 (iniital release was 14.5.0.116). This was very specific to registry defrag.

Even if something had gone wrong here, since the OP was able to use system restore it would have taken care of it.
