Hi
I am running ghost 14. I have 4 backup tasks. I keep getting the above error for one of the tasks. I have tried the services->stop Ghost->delete the catalog.dat-> restart Ghost and try again routine about 5 times. And no joy. The other tasks back up fine.
I figured I would delete that task and re-create it, as a last resort. I say this because it would then leave a load of files on my external hard drive.
Is there anything else I can try to get this task to work? I have run this task several times before, but it just wont do it now!

Hi maxellcat, are there any other error codes along with this one? All warnings and error messages are reported by Ghost to the Windows Event log. Could you look at the application event logs and check for any warnings/errors from Ghost, Ghost Service, V2i, Volume Shadow Copy Service, etc? Please include the whole error code text, as it may provide more info as to the cause.
What are the 4 backup tasks? Are they all scheduled? Are they file and folder backups, full disk backups, incremental backups? When are each scheduled? Which exact version of Norton Ghost 14 are you using? Have you run LiveUpdate in Ghost until there are no more updates? Which operating system are you using, and how is it partitioned? I'm sorry for the questions; without having your system in front of me, this information is critical to finding the cause. Thanks!

Sorry for the delay - from the error messages you posted, there are some other people experiencing the same problem. You may want to review this thread and apply some of the fixes:

This could be due to conflict between the VSS Writer services.
I would suggest you to do the following:
• Check and permanently disable the SQL Server VSS Writer service if found.
• Stop the Norton Ghost service.
• Delete the Catalog.dat file.
• Restart the Norton Ghost service.
• Run backup.

Thank your for your reply.
I checked the services and SQL Server VSS Writer has "Startup Type" as disabled.
So I suppose that's not the problem???
But thanks for helping - its just so annoying. Last night I went to back up some files. I have 3 backup jobs.
First one worked a treat. Went to do the second, and after 20 minutes of so "database locked"....

Me again
have also noticed that when doing folder backups the "performance slider is disabled...." - is that correct
and that when I was in manage my disc space it took about 10 minutes before I could do anything as my external HD whirred away. I then noticed that apparently the size of my recovery point was about 50 Gb - ie what i would expect, but the size of the folder backups was 0!!! Despite there being lots of folders inside the backup folder
Something is wrong
Please help!
