Ghost 14 copy winXP to new HD

I bought a new 640gb hdd that came bundled with vista 64. I have the new HDD installed with vista on it. I also created a partition on the new HDD to install my XP install from the old HDD. When I created the partition I copied my old HDD to the new partition using ghost14 containing the xp install and when I unplugged the old HDD the OS would not load. From that point I just booted to vista cd and installed vista, now vista works and xp "the one i copied earlier" is on the second partition and will not load. I tried adding it to the vista bootloader and it shows up when i reboot but will not load if i select it. The copy I made is on the D:\ drive and vista is on the C:\ drive. How can I make my copy active? ty.

Re: Ghost 14 copy winXP to new HD

Maybe if you copy the XP to the C:, test it booting up (some errors can came because of the different HDD and it's different driver), and then install Vista to D:, which will update the bootmenu to work properely.

Re: Ghost 14 copy winXP to new HD

Hi there

Check this MS link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555852/en-us the problem is probably the fact theat XP and Vista use two different boot programs and are not compatable..

Good Luck

I got it woking. The problem was that the partition I copied to was not a primary. I made it a primary and recopied and now it works.
