The error message I receive when attempting to do an incremental backup is this:
-Unable to create incremental recovery point.
--Error E0BB0061: Win32/Win64 API [WindowsComputer::MakeSnapVolumeWriteable] DeviceIoControl( FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME, \\?\SymantecSnapshot1 ) failed.
---Error EBAB03F1: Access is denied.
(UMI:V-0-187-131) [end]
I'm sure there have been other messages in the past but this is the last one I saved to clipboard.
My only solution to date has been to rename the Norton Backup folder (on my external drive) and let Norton create a new folder and do a complete backup. Suggestions? I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium and am up to date with Windows Updates.

Well, after having completed a total backup yesterday, the incremental backup today succeeded.
I have no idea why this happens. So, at the moment, it seems everything is working as it should.
Just passing this on.

This KB article says Ghost 14 but I'm sure it's the same problem your having.

Dave, that link ultimately brings me to 'Nathan' asking me how he can help.

You don't want Nathan, he is not much help.
I don't understand what happened, the link worked yesterday and I have the same link in my browser history.
But it described the exact problem your having and it said you need to do a chkdsk on the C drive.
I can still see that part of the instructions in my browser cache:
In Windows Vista, click the Start button and then click All Programs > Accessories > Run
Type the following in the Run dialog box, and then press Enter:
| cmd |
Type the following at command line in the command prompt window, and then press Enter:
| chkdsk C: /r /f |
If you need to run Check Disk on any other drive, replace C: with the drive letter of that drive.
If you are prompted with the message "CHKDSK cannot lock the current drives while Windows is running...", press Y to schedule it to run during next system restart.
Restart the computer when Check Disk finishes.

I did a chkdsk on my external drive and it came up just fine.
I managed to complete one incremental backup which I wrote about here but just now the second incremental backup failed.
I really would like to see that solution that you mentioned. Thanks, Dave

See if you can view it here from the yahoo cache. They must have just moved the article.
Also note it says to run chkdsk on the source drive (C) not the destination drive.

Edit- that link does not work either, it is much too long for the forum.
Go to yahoo.com and paste my original link into the search bar.

It will come up as the only seach result, click the word "Cached"

... Article not found ...
If you have the solution, could you copy and paste it here?
This added later - one key phrase that I see in these error messages - Access denied.
I'm guessing this might have to do with 'user priviledges' in Windows Vista? At any rate, I managed to complete one incremental backup before I received that error message today.

I already did paste the solution here.
Error: "Error E0BB0061: Win32/Win64 API [WindowsComputer::MakeSnapVolumeWriteable]..." or "Error EBAB03F1: Access is denied..." while creating a recovery point in Norton Ghost 14.0

Here's the last error message ...
-Unable to create incremental recovery point.
--Error E0BB0061: Win32/Win64 API [WindowsComputer::MakeSnapVolumeWriteable] DeviceIoControl( FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME, \\?\SymantecSnapshot1 ) failed.
---Error EBAB03F1: Access is denied.
(UMI:V-0-187-131) [end message]
The words LOCK VOLUME ... and access is denied ... seems to speak to other issues. I'll run the chkdsk on my C drive but I'd bet money running the chkdsk just wastes my time. I'll report back.
