Re: Ghost 15 Copy Drive Failure

A "clone" would be a hard drive that is a copy of the original.

There are different ways to end up with a clone, image\restore or copy drive will give the result of ending up with a drive that is a clone of the original.

A lot of people incorrectly use the term as a verb, they use the term "cloning a drive" as doing a copy disk and thats where the confusion comes in.

When I say image\restore, I mean to say that I created images of all the partitions and then restored them onto an empty drive.

I have already done that, several times with this test system.

I have yet to do a copy drive because like an idiot I stored all my images on a drive that is identical in size to the one I am using for the operating systems.

I am going to have to move all those images elsewhere or find another drive to use for the copy drive that is the same size or larger.

Dave, with you all the way on that one.

Deric, attach a partinfo.txt file.

Go into the ghost\utility folder and run partinfo, then attach the text file it makes.

Dave,

this partinfo will be off the multi boot machine which has Ghost 12 installed.

In reality I suppose you want it off the 120 gig source I use for the tests.

anyway try this for now

Re: Ghost 15 Copy Drive Failure

Those are all cylinder aligned

But that shows Vista being on F, (4'th partition)

Thats different than your screenshot in post 10 that shows it on the second partition on the drive

Re: Ghost 15 Copy Drive Failure

Dave,

please let me know if you want the partinfo.exe off the "cloned" 120 gig source drive I use for the tests and no doubt you will want G15 installed on it.

If that is the case tomorrow I will have to slot it in the docking station and disconnect the primary and secondary drives in "Turnberry".

Really the partinfo.exe I have posted is a backup off the original updated with more apps etc.

Re: Ghost 15 Copy Drive Failure

What I can do tomorrow is slip the "clone" in and rename the partitions and post a partinfo of that.

Re: Ghost 15 Copy Drive Failure

Check the first few lines of the partinfo, txt you attached

It says "F:\Program Files\Norton Ghost\Utility\PartInfo.exe"

Path:    F:/Windows/

Dave, I'm waiting to hear about your Copy Drive results. I tried it again and I'm getting worse results than Deric.

Re: Ghost 15 Copy Drive Failure

Brian,

I was hoping you would comment on my results of restoring the images.

How I only end up with non-booting operating systems when I restore originally cylinder aligned partitions into the offset partitions that the Ghost recovery disk creates.

I'm sure the same problem will carry over to copy drive.  I expect my offset partitions to copy just fine and I expect that I will have to copy my cylinder aligned partitions into partitions created with XP (no letters) for it to work.
