Ghost 15 EXTREMELY slow to start

Ghost 15.  Win 7.  Backing up to a mapped network drive on another computer.

Ever since I did a full system backup (20 GB), Ghost is EXTREMELY slow to start.  Once I open the program, I get the message:  Connecting and retrieving information from backup and recovery service on MY-PC.  Reading backup destination information.  I get the progress bar.  It takes about 15 minutes and then goes to something like a "good" status green screen.

Then when I go to run a backup job, it says: Data Backup:Waiting. for several minutes.

Once the backup gets going, it runs quickly, just a few minutes to back up.  No errors or anything.  But it is all of this getting ready to back up delay that is annoying.  To spend this much time before it even begins the backup job is too much.

What's my system doing during this "connecting and retrieving information from backup and recovery service." that takes so long?  How can I speed this process up so I can launch Ghost and quickly launch my backup routine?

By the way, I have run earlier versions of Ghost under windows XP and the same mapped network drive setup for years without any similar problem.

Re: Ghost 15 EXTREMELY slow to start

A couple of questions:

How is your network set up?

What type of internet connection do you?

Do you have a firewall?  What is it?

You could also check the following in a command prompt:

vssadmin list providers

Begin a backup and run the following from a command prompt:

vssadmin list writers

If you could note the providers and writers.

Re: Ghost 15 EXTREMELY slow to start

Thanks for the response Erik.  I think I figured it out a few days ago before you responded.

After I made my first backup, I moved my backup file locations to a different drive.  I think the system was still trying to look for the old location of those files.  Now I see that you have the option to move the backup files from within the Ghost 15 interface, which is what I will do next time.

I have since removed the program, reinstalled and have been careful to leave the files where they are at.  Everything seems fine now.
