Re: Ghost 15 Sux

[ Edited ]

John,

Would you like to test your backup HD? Remove the internal HD and put it in a drawer. Put the backup HD in your computer and attempt to boot. I doubt it will boot. What is the error message?

Leave the HD in place and boot from the Ghost 15 CD and set the 1.46 GB Recovery partition Active. To do this from the Ghost CD click....

Utilities
Change Active Partition
Enter ID:
Press ENTER

Does Win7 boot now?

Re: Ghost 15 Sux

Thanks for the suggestions,

My computer is a Toshiba laptop and my USB drive is an enclosed portable drive and cannot be installed into my laptop. I actually have two portable HD’s and a spare internal drive, all being of the same size. I have no way of hooking up my spare internal drive to a USB port. So, ….  I have a lot of crap, ……. you’d think that I could get something to work.

John,

I have spare Sata drives and I also have a usb powered Sata adaptor, can you get access to an adaptor because they do come in handy in cases like this.

John,

Sorry to be blunt but I don't like seeing someone wasting his time. Your method has minimal chance of working. Listen to reason and create images.

I can't agree more Brian,

I don't think that the penny has dropped yet,it is so easy to create images, restore points or backups ( all mean the same) to safeguard the computer.

Some users seem to think that a "clone" is the way forward which of course it is not the case.

Re: Ghost 15 Sux

Format that external drive because the drive copy you have on there isn't going to do you any good.

Create one time images of the first 2 partitions onto the external drive.

Remove your internal hard drive and replace it with your spare.

Boot to the Ghost recovery disk and restore the 2 partitions onto the spare drive using the settings listed here:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Other-Norton-Products/Ghost-15-options-for-recovery/m-p/218202/highli...

Go to the section: "Restore to a new HD if a SRP is present" and treat the first partition just like you would for a system reserved partition (SRP).

You'll end up with just what you wanted, a "clone" of the hard drive that can be used in case the other drive fails.

Re: Ghost 15 Sux

Thanks I’ll give it a try and also read up on imaging and see if I can make that work. If I can then I’ll have a choice, listen to me, I haven’t gotten anything to work and now I’m talking about choices. What an optimist.
