Ghost 15 error ED800012 Internal structure invalid etc.

Ghost 15 will not complete a recovery point and gives an error ED800012. This is on a "clean" system running Vista home premium, a quad processor and an ASROCK motherboard. There are NO other applications to worry about it is as good as a "Test" platform. I have posted this issue on the "Testers" forum and would like an answer, what is meant by code "ED800012".    Deric.

I got round this by disabling "limit on number of recovery point sets saved for this backup" - not exactly a solution but at least it got me a valid backup - just need to delete old sets every now and then I guess to save backup disk space .

Hope this helps

By doing that it only frees up disk space, it will not eliminate the error, thanks anyway.  Deric

Hi Deric - I realise my suggestion is a "band-aid" solution but it gets you a valid backup for the time being.  If you get a robust solution, can you add it to this thread?

Re: Ghost 15 error ED800012 Internal structure invalid etc.

Hi Walter,

I have had no positive feedback from Tony and the team yet, but I have been experimenting for a couple of days and have concluded that the OEM software that I have from a friend is for distribution on a corporate network only. The clue was when I loaded XP Pro OEM on a test machine and the XP UI was completely different to the retail version and asking for the Administrator details. Ghost 12 and Ghost 15 wouldn't even load. As far as Vista was concerned the only evidence was the error message (ED800012when Ghost 15 couldn't compare the files on the O/S (Vista) to it's own when the final validation stage was reached.

Re: Ghost 15 error ED800012 Internal structure invalid etc.

Hi Charlie,

No feedback from Tony and the team, but my previous post explains the problem and the remedy was to backup with Ghost 2003 (ms-dos). As analternative to G2003 I believe Ghost Backup Executive 8.5 will copy without the error. The error is caused by G15 not supporting corporate type OEM software. The software I had from a friend was for corporate use hence the error code. Hope that explains it for you.  Deric.

Hi Deric - I suspect that this error may have multiple causes as my software is not corporate.  Strangely, my backup now has the dreaded  fault of trying to create a recovery point and having a touch of the vapours at 1% into the backup process.  How can we have any confidence in a program's ability to save us from major PC disaster when there are so many problems with it when the PC is working perfectly.  In fairness, this problem is not limited to Norton Ghost software.
